James Cashion Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 12 to Mar. 13, 2013.
October 11, 1926 – March 10, 2013

James Thomas Cashion passed away March 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. "Jimmie" was born on October 11, 1926 to Winnie and Mason Lee Cashion on the campus of Texas A&M University. He was known as one of the "campus brats" and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1944. He was a member of the "Kiddie Corps" and played quarterback at Texas A&M. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M in 1948. Jimmie served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

After obtaining a Master of Education from Texas A&M in 1954, he served in the Texas public school systems in Madisonville, Odessa, and Brazosport. He retired in 1986 and moved back home to Bryan.

Survivors include the love of his life of 56 years, Lila; two sons and their wives, Paul and Jenny Cashion of Boerne, TX and Tim and Teresa Cashion of Richmond, TX; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Stan Speegle of College Station, TX and Emily and Joe Endres of Fort Worth, TX. Grandchildren are Andrew, Philip, and Adam Cashion; Erin and Neal Cashion; Jeep and Vendie Endres.

He is also survived by his brother, M.L. "Red" Cashion and wife, Marie, of Bryan, TX; brother-in-law Harold Smart and wife, Jane, of San Diego, CA; five nieces and one nephew, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters-in-law Lou Cashion and Marilyn Smart.

Jim was truly the epitome of a good and faithful servant. It would be difficult to find a man who loved God more. His absolute loves were his Lord Jesus Christ, his family, Aggie football, and a good game of golf. He served as an ordained deacon and elder for many years in the Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Carter Creek Parkway, Bryan, TX 77802.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bryan or a charity of your choice.

Dear Aunt Lila & Family: I am truly saddened by the passing of Uncle Jim. I have always admired him for his wisdom and gentle guidance. They say everything is bigger in Texas, well that was my uncle Jim. He my not have been a man of great physical stature, but his huge heart and love for family would be hard to match. His gentle, yet strong presence was a testament to his walk with the Lord. I love how he never made you fell like an outsider, but just another member of the Cashion clan. Like when I came to Dallas on several occasions for DEFY conferences; he and aunt Lila would drive up and visit. He had a way of engaging you, and making you feel like you and he were the only ones on the world when he spoke deeply. I am blessed to have had him in my life, and I Thank you and him for allowing me the privilege to be apart of the Cashion Ohana. All my love and Aloha.

Mr Cashion, you are truly amazing person with wonderful stories and always brought a smile to my face no matter how bad of a day I was having. You are a special man and am so glad to have at least had you in my life for the short time I worked at Liberty. God Bless The Cashions and you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

May we all live our lives in James T. Cashion style. His "quiet confidence", his love of God and Family, and his zest for life. So many, many memories -- all bring a smile. I love you "Cashion family". God Bless.

Dear Mrs. Cashion, Emily, Joe, Jeep, Vendie, Marilyn, Stan, and the entire Cashion family:
My deepest sympathy for the loss of a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. I regret not knowing Mr. Cashion personally. However, I'm fortunate to feel as though I know him through many stories over the years about a man greatly revered and respected by his family. I pray that joyful memories and the blessing of his long, active and independent life will bring you comfort during this difficult time. "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master!"
