Dear Jan, Lauren, Lee and James: I had the good fortune of meeting Jim forty years ago when I settled in Albany and joined the Albany Country Club. He was quite gracious in welcoming me to Albany. In all of my years I have never met a more consummate gentleman. We became friends and I played many rounds with him and Lee and James. He had a deep appreciation for golf and was quite an accomplished player. He was famous for examining his putts from every angle which gave rise to the famous Castleman staulk approach on Albany's treacherous greens. He was also my physician and you would be hard pressed to find a more competent, attentive and caring doctor anywhere in the United States. He also had a wonderfully dry sense of humor. I remember well his identical brother Laurie's visits to the Albany Member guest tournaments. Jim was always fun to be around and he had a calm, cool and collected demeanor. He was proud of his wife, and children but never boasted about them, although he had plenty to be proud of. His children will certainly carry on his tradition of excellence in all that life has to offer. God bless you and my sincere condolences on your loss of Jim. I apologize for having missed the opportunity to have delivered my sympathies in person. Peter Pastore

Jan and Family,
50 or so years ago, while a member of Albany Country Club, I had the honor of meeting Dr Jim and playing golf with him. We saw each other over the years at various tournaments. He was the quintessential gentleman golfer.

Jan and Family- Jim was a wonderful man and a great golfer who always made me laugh when he would tell me what a good golfer I was. Goodness knows that is a reach but, he was very kind that way. He always told me how lucky he was teamed up with me in events but, I was the lucky one. Jim forgot more about golf than I will ever learn. His passing is a loss to many. Like many, I am grateful for how he has treated me over the years. My deepest sympathies to you and all your family.
