James Cavallaro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2025.
James Donald "Jim" Cavallaro, 82, of Hamden Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at Hospice in Branford. Born on September 24, 1942, in New Haven, he was just days shy of his 83rd birthday. In his younger years, those closest to Jim knew him as "Skip", which was a nickname given to him by his mother.

Jim dedicated many years of his professional life to Quinnipiac University, where he served as the superintendent of evening operations. His commitment and steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike.

A proud Corvette enthusiast, Jim found joy behind the wheel and took great pride in his cars. He also enjoyed visiting Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos, where he favored the penny slots and the thrill of the game. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, Jim was a jokester whose humor brought smiles to those around him.

He is lovingly remembered by his son David Cavallaro and daughter-in-law Monica; his daughter Kimberly Winnick and her partner Kai Irwin; and his cherished grandchildren: Brianna Gray, Sarah Winnick, Hannah Cavallaro, and Aiden Cavallaro.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Donald Cavallaro and Dorothy Cavallaro (Nelson); his sister Lynn Pizzarusso; and brother-in-law Nicholas Pizzarusso.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

I had the pleasure of working with Jim at Quinnipiac. He was always so kind and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed when setting up for events. Saw him several times after his retirement at car shows and his love and pride for his Corvette was evident. Sending prayers to his family.
