James Coan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2024.
James Leon "DOG" Coan, 76, of Flint, MI, passed away on May 5, 2024. Born on January 22, 1948, in Flint, James was a beloved figure known for his vibrant personality and heartfelt connections with those around him. ( Vahala Has gained a great Warrior.)

DOG was a dedicated employee at General Motors V9 engine plant until his retirement. He was not only a skilled worker but also DOG loved riding his motorcycle and tinkering in his workshop. James was often described as a "Jack of all trades" and took great joy in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm, especially with his grandson, Zavier, by introducing him to new and exciting experiences.

He attended Bendell High School, where he began forming lifelong friendships and his charming personality started to shine. James was a family man, deeply devoted to his daughter Kelly Coan and his grandson Zavier Mills of Flint, MI. He is also survived by his sister Linda Krzyzewski and her children Nicholas and Katie of Flushing, MI, and his childhood friend James Robertson of Port Huron, MI. James was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Mary Coan (née Cook), and his brothers Charles Coan and brother-in-law Richard Krzyzewski.

James had a unique request for his final arrangements; he wished to be cremated and his ashes scattered off the Mackinaw Bridge. His daughter Kelly and grandson Zavier have honored this wish. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date, where friends and family can share memories and honor his vibrant spirit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the following link: [https://gofund.me/8d0fcde1](https://gofund.me/8d0fcde1). This gesture will continue James's legacy of generosity and love.

When I think of Jimmy. I Think of a loving and giving person he was to my son Chad and his friends. He always seen the good in every body. He always kept us laughing when we got together. We will miss him. And always remember him.

Jim was my cousin, but not only a cousin. Jim was more like a brother. We all grew up together - Jim, Chuck, Linda & myself. We shared so many great memories over the years. We used to go to the movies together (and almost get thrown out because of Jim and Chuck's antics!). We went trick or treating together. Jim loved to tease and he could always make you laugh, even at the most inappropriate times! Jim, thanks for being you and thanks for helping to make my childhood and teen years fun!!! Love you!

I had the privilege of being a friend of Jimmy. We had many great rides and made many memories together. Always a class act. Nicest and friendliest man I ever met. I was honored to have known him. I´ll miss him until the day I die. I love you brother. Rest in peace . Jack

Jim was a wonderful and thoughtful man. On his many trips out West, he never failed to make a phone call, send a postcard and/or a trinket to my son, Eric.
"Dog" was one of Eric's father, (Al), best friends. I will always be remember Jim with love. Many memories of his visits to the cabin and the time he spent with Al at Memory Care. A great guy!!
