How did Jimmy die?
Mary Rose Synek
August 9, 2019
I am very saddened to read of Jim's passing. I attended Brooklyn College with him. Our acting classes and productions were enhanced by his humor and intelligence. He drew a boat one day in class, he often sketched. He gave it to me, The Mary Rose. He was extraordinarily disciplined when rehearsing...when I look back, I can see how his trajectory was clear. He knew himself. I had bumped into him a few times in the city. My life took me away from acting. He pursued the art as only the true creative artist does. I was forwarded the beautiful NYT article about his visual/decorative artistry and was moved by his passion and craftsmanship. What a beautiful paean of love, the sea-faring home overlooking the Hudson. I wish I knew how close he was to my workplace, The Armory on 168th. Love and blessings to you all.

With such sadness, I just heard of Jimmys passing today. Jimmy and I became quick friends and the tightest of brothers from our very first connection at Bridgewater State. We moved to Palisade park NJ to start our creative lives in NYC, Jimmy as an actor and me in advertising. I have never laughed or had such a tight friendship since. We eventually moved back to Mass after a year of extreme laughter and growth. Jim would obviously move back and dedicate himself to his craft. I was always so proud of him. After jimmy was in my wedding back in 1990 we sadly drifted apart but jimmy has always been in my heart. I so regret not having reconnected so that we could have known eachothers families and shared in our life moments. All my blessings to his wife, daughter and the many many people that loved and respected Jimmy for his humanity, friendship, talent and laughter. RIP my friend. Paulie

Just found out yesterday that Jimmy passed. Our old boss and friend Larry Macyntyre was visiting and gave us the terrible news. Jimmy and I were bartenders at Chelsea Central In 89 /90 before I joined the NYPD and he went on to his acting career . A sweeter guy did not exist. True gentleman. Prayers for his wife and young daughter. RIP Jimmy

I am just now learning about Jim's passing and I'm devastated. Jim's first show (I believe) was as Macheath to my Polly Peachum at Bridgewater State College. Then we did "Same Time Next Year" together. He was like a kid in a candy store having discovered acting - he just loved it!! Such a kind man. We did not stay in touch after school, but I was thrilled to see his success on Broadway, in films and on television. To his family, I'm so so sorry for your loss. He was a great talent and a lovely lovely person.

I was catching up on recorded TV programs after being out of country for a while when I read about James' passing. My heartfelt condolences go to his family for this terrible loss. I only recently met Jim when I played his wife, Joyce Burleson, on an episode of "Empire". We had a great time working together and I found him to be such a great guy! He talked so fondly of his daughter. It was a treat to see him light up when he mentioned her. Our meeting was only a couple of days, but I saw how talented he was and I know he will be greatly missed. I'm sending prayers for his wife and daughter and hoping this small memory of him gives them comfort.

I have been busy with life situations and normally do not watch television on a Friday night, but happen to watch an episode of Taken, when I realised after, the episode was dedicated to James Colby's memory. Did not know he had passed; way too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and little girl. He will remain a favored, respected actor and human being. From a humble fan, Elka.
