James Condon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2012.
HAMPDEN - James "Jim" Hollis Condon, 60, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 17, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. James was born in Bangor, son of Hollis E. and Barbara (Pinkham) Condon. Jim grew up and attended Hampden schools. He was a 1970 graduate of Hampden Academy. Jim worked at Rawcliffe's Garage, Hampden, for many years. He had an interest in motorcycles, gardening and plants, yet an even stronger interest in music. Jim got his musical start by playing his grandfather's banjo as a child and later the bass guitar, which developed into a lifelong passion and hobby. Jim will be remembered as a loving father, son, brother, uncle, companion and friend. Jim is survived by his parents, Hollis and Barbara Condon of Hampden; son, Ryan R. Condon and wife, Adrien, of Waialua, Hawaii; sister, Mary Johnson and husband, Fred, of Eagle River, Alaska; an expected granddaughter, Paige C. Condon; nephews, Matthew and Cameron Johnson of Alaska; companion, Reva Newey of Winterport; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, with the Rev. David Nicol officiating. Memorial contributions in Jim's honor may be made to WERU Community Radio, P.O. Box 170, East Orland, ME 04431. To Barbara, Hollis and Mary, and those family members I do not know, I was deeply saddened when Drew called and shared the news. Since I have been away, we would only rarely cross paths when I came home to visit and Jim never seemed to change. The messages that others have shared seem to echo that. He was a bright, gentle, and talented soul, and we are enriched by sharing a part of his life. I always visit the lower corner when I come home and remember the days in High School when deep bonds of friendship and shared mischief were formed. I'll miss him. You are in my prayers.

Jim was a good and kind person with a sense of humor. He was a little off-beat (not musically of course) which was part of his charm. He was a good father to our son, Ryan, and we maintained a friendship over the years which I appreciated.

Reading that Jim had passed away put a damper on my morning. I knew Jim because I drive a car. He pumped gas in my car for many years at Rawcliffe's. And when my car was in the shop in the East Hampden Rawcliffe's, he sometimes ferried me to work and back. I always enjoyed his witty and intelligent conversation. He was one of those really nice people who always had a smile and something interesting to say. I will miss seeing him around town.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

I had the pleasure of working a few gigs with Jim, in late 2011. He had such a great feel and tone on his bass. While I just recently got to know Jim, I was honored to call him a friend and I'll miss his stories and musicality. The other members of Juicebox, along with myself, offer our sincerest condolences to his close friends and family. We will miss him.

Dear Holis & Barb. Sorry to hear of the loss of your son Jim. Brother Jim D. called early this morning to tell me the news. We will try to make arrangements to go to the wake when we visit Jeanne at Ross Manor on Sunday.
We didn't know Jim personally but to lose a child is "tragic". So said my mother when our brother was killed in 1957. Art & Jim Dentremont

You can know a person for a long time and not really know him all that well. You can know someone else for only a little while, sharing a few minutes here, a few minutes there, yet really connect. I knew Jim for a few years, mostly in 10-minute increments. It was very revealing. He was pleasant and exuded a joy that didn't shout out but seemed to be truly at his core. It was if he didn't have to prove he was content. He just seemed happy. It was obvious he loved music, the thought of Key West and the people with whom he was closest. That was the Jim I knew, a few minutes here, a few minutes there. For those who knew him, especially those who had the privilege of sharing a lot more time with him, I am sorry for your loss.

January 20, 2012

Barb & Hollis, so sorry to read about your loss. Our prayers are with you both.Paul & Di Giles
