I grew up with Jim Cox, our friendship beginning in kindergarten. Jim was a heart-friend, a kind and considerate gentleman as he matured in junior high and high school. We were just simply good friends, respecting one another's dreams for the future. My husband and I enjoyed several years in close proximity with the Coxes as Colorado residents when Jim was at Penrose Hospital. When Jim and Christa and family left Colorado, our contact ceased. I saw Jim, after his marriage to Ritsuko, just once but received a letter from him several years ago, a response to a letter I wrote to Jim, telling him how proud I was of his incredible achievements in radiology...in medicine. What a remarkable man! What a remarkable legacy he has left to the world of oncology/radiation! He will be greatly missed. My condolences to Jim's family. Patricia Brunner

I was SO sorry to learn of Jim's passing. I really enjoyed working with him during my years at ACR. I also fondly remember when a group of us visited Chartres (spelling?) after an ARS annual meeting. My prayers are truly with you.

I am a radiation oncologist who first met Dr. Cox when he was my oral examiner in 1981 in Louisville, Kentucky. Even under those challenging circumstances of being examined one on one by a giant in the field, it was obvious to me that he was a true gentleman. I passed his portion of the exam and found the experience educational and informative despite the usual stress. I spoke with him later that year at an ASTRO meeting and we discussed the questions that he asked me. He was a great teacher and inspiration who touched many young lives in different ways. I am now 66, still practicing full time, and can vividly recall my discussions with him over the years. Although I never had the opportunity to study or work under him directly, I still was able to sense his dedication, intelligence, kindness, and passion for his work, his teaching, and his patients. I am sure many who knew him much better than I would have similar memories of this great physician and human being.

While I saw how much you dedication to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, I also witnessed your passion to AAWR, SANTRO, China and the world. Your teaching the teachers effort has been highly appreciated by many, your active support to SANTRO inaugural symposium is being remembered. I heartedly appreciate your support and guidance of my efforts on AAWR, ASTRO and SANTRO.

Jim was a treasure who was always considered an integral part ot the del Regato family. His interest in each member of our family was evidenced by the time he took to interact and talk with each on of us, my dad, Juan del Regato and mom, my sisters Anne, Nita, myself John and my wife Mary, So many memories relate to spending time discussing the issues of the day. As time passed ,we infrequently saw each other but when we did, it was like time never passed. We were blessed by his life that has benefited so many lives, not to mention the lives of our family.

Dear Ritzuko, we send you and your family our sincere love and admiration for all that you and Jim have done to make such a huge a difference in this world.

It is with heavy heart that we send condolences to Jim's family. In a special way he was like a son to my dad, and therefore a member of the family in our hearts. May he rest easier now while we keep happy memories of him to treasure always.

I am one of three children of Juan del Regato, M.D., Jim's mentor in Colorado Springs during his residency in oncology. My father loved and admired Jim and always had a father-son relationship with him which made me feel like Jim was a half brother of sorts. My dad was so proud of Jim and all the achievements he made in the field of oncology. He would be no less proud that Jim was an avid Democrat. We will miss Jim. We want to thank him for the many ways he helped our family and friends over the years. He was an exceptional physician and like my father, saved the lives of many whom we loved. Our love and sympathy for Ritsuko and your family.
