James P. Danis Sr.

James P. Danis, Sr., 81, of Bristol, widower of JoAnn (Granger) Danis, died on Monday (Jan. 30, 2023) at Apple Rehab in Plainville. Jim was born in Bristol on Oct. 11, 1941, and was a son of the late Joseph and Violet (Mahaffy) Danis. He was a lifelong Bristol resident where he graduated from Bristol High School Class of 1959. He enlisted to serve in the United States Marine Corps where he served as corporal until his honorable discharge after four years of service.
Upon his return home, he worked for the U.S Post Office in Bristol until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2 and a 40-year Mason of the Frederick-Franklin Lodge #14. He enjoyed walking and volunteering at the Bristol American Legion baseball games. He was a fan of the Red Sox and UCONN Women's Basketball teams and he served as a deacon at the former Bristol Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Southington.
Jim is survived by his two children: Jamie Maheu and husband, Paul of Bristol, and James P. Danis, Jr. and Liz Callahan of West Hartford; three siblings: Sylvia Fuller (& husband Frank) of Terryville, Kathleen Williams (& husband Graham) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Steven Danis (& wife Elaine) of Virginia; three grandchildren: Claressa and Rebecca Maheu and Benjamin Danis; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother: Joseph Danis.
