Father James DeVita born March 4, 1930 in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, and passed away September 21, 2022 in Boynton Beach, Florida. Ordained a priest on June 29, 1957 in Messina, Italy. Moved to the US to be closer to his family who immigrated to Canada and served most of his priestly ministry in New York and New Jersey. Even in his retirement in Florida he continued to assist in his ministry. Pre-deceased by his mother Agnese DeVita, his father Matteo DeVita, sisters Rafaela Ban, Giovana DeVita, Lucia Piro. Survived by his loving sisters Lina Palcich, Maria Candiago, brother Tony and may nieces and nephews and their children. Father James was loved by many parishoners, and continued many long distance relationships with friends he left in Italy. His energy and generosity was obvious as evidenced by many friends and parishoners who continued to contact him and maintain life long friendships with. He was very devoted to Padre Pio and maintained a strong love of family throughout his entire life. Visitors will be received in St. Mary's Church, 345 Lyle at York on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, London. Dear Father James's family and loved ones, please accept my condolences on this profound loss.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Father James while I was still working at London Health Sciences Centre in the University Hospital Business Office for Corporate Finance, my job was looking after Out of Country Inpatient accounts for billing insurances and payments. Father James came to my office on two occasions regarding his accounts, we shared conversations and laughs! Truly a most gracious, kind, genuine man and Priest. I myself being Catholic we got along great even after he went back to Florida, we stayed in touch via sending cards especially at Christmas. Father James thank you for the time we shared doing finances for your visits! I will be forever grateful. My comfort is knowing you are now with God, and you have reunited with family that are in God's eternal home in heaven that have been waiting for you. Rest Father James you did great! Thank you.
