James DiLuzio Obituary

James Mauro DiLuzio

August 22, 1931 – May 24, 2025

James "Jim" Mauro DiLuzio, 93, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and former Police Chief of Closter, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, surrounded by family. He received the Catholic Sacraments of Anointing and Prayers for the Dying.

Born in Englewood, NJ, Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 before beginning an impressive 30-year career with the Closter Police Department, where he rose from Patrolman to Chief of Police. Known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and devotion to family, he also worked many side jobs early on with his Uncle Leo DiLuzio (deceased, of Tenafly, NJ), learning skills of the trade in masonry work and carpentry.

After retiring to Florida, Jim remained active in construction, mastering painting and later became Lead Superintendant for Rinek Custom Homes, a family business owned by his daughter Jeanne and son-in-law Charles.

Jim was a lifelong Yankees fan and loved classic Westerns and game shows like Family Feud and The Newlywed Game, but his greatest joy came from being with his family.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 72 years, Janet Eleanor DiLuzio; his sister Patricia DiLuzio; children: Rev. James Michael DiLuzio, Jeanne Rinek (Charles), Edward DiLuzio (Jennifer), and son-in-law Donald Comeau. He was predeceased by his daughter, Muriel Comeau.

He was a proud grandfather to Justine Florez (Alan), Veronica DeFeo, Sean DiLuzio (Stephanie), Amanda Drewes (Daniel), Dallas Rinek (Anna), Chelsea Parente (Dominic), Vincent Comeau, and Abigail DiLuzio; and great-grandfather to Addison Florez, Annabel Florez, Lyla DeFeo, Daxton Drewes, Nova Parente, Ronan DiLuzio, Enzo Parente, and Kylan DiLuzio.

Jim will be remembered for his steady presence, humble strength, and love for those closest to him.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Condolences may be sent c/o Jeanne and Charles Rinek, Rinek Custom Homes, 50 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite A1, Palm Coast, FL 32164-2501
