In memory of
Isabel Rey
September 20, 2018
Our dear friend Doc never met a stranger. He had a heart the size of Texas. He will be deeply missed but I know he has achieved his reward in paradise. I first met Doc at Midland High in 1966 when I arrived there as a sophomore. In those huge halls he made me feel welcomed. What do you know kiddo, was his usual greeting. In later years when I would run into him he always asked how I was doing and how was the family. My sincerest condolences to his family and until we meet again Doc, adios!

Doc Dodson ... His passing has affected many people, myself included. It has been several years since I have actually seen or spoken with Doc, but in my mind can clearly see his ever present, bright smile. Everyone has kind words to say about him, but no one can quite capture who or what his life was all about. He was an example of how life should be lived. Those characteristics in a person are easily seen or felt, but hard to describe with words. Remember the famous "crying towel" that was ever present in his classroom? He was not only into sports, but a dedicated teacher (history for me) who took the process of learning seriously while making it fun. His ability to remember names and faces was something to be envied. Years after graduating when I would occasionally run into him somewhere around Midland, he would always remember exactly who I was. He was one of a kind ... a person that will never be forgotten.

Doc was our neighbor down the street when I was in high school. He was also my 9th grade Sunday school teacher at First Methodist , my weightlifting coach at the YMCA, and my drivers ed instructor at MHS. For many years he was like an extension of my family. His amazing life interwove with mine and the lives of many Midlanders. Doc is joyfully present with the Lord now but his absence here has left a big void that will never be filled. He will be greatly missed by those of us he blessed in Midland and others throughout this world. Our prayers for are going up for Gayle, Kelly, Jamie and all of Doc's family.

Doc Dodson was a friend that I enjoyed being around when we were at track meets and the Trainer Association. I first met Dodson when I was Athletic Trainer at Amarillo Tascosa from 1968 to 1970 and then was around him more when I was at Ector High in Odessa from 1972 to 1974 and then at Odessa College from 1974 to 1978. I remember going to their home and Gayle and James were gracious hosts. Last saw Doc at airport after he had left Midland High and we had a short visit. One fantastic man. My condolences to the family.

I will always remember Doc as an important part of all our teams I played on while in Stanton. Anytime you had any type of injury, you could count on Doc to help get to the bottom of it. He was an extremely well respected man in the West Texas community and left a legacy that his family should be proud of!

Doc was a unique man and loved by all. His smile was infectious and he spread it wherever he went. I have many wonderful memories of Doc, Gayle and his family. Seeing him at MHS in the halls or at games. Visiting with Gayle at my aunt's salon or my aunt and uncle's house. Some of my most fun memories are when my cousin, Chastel and I were taking the driving portion of Driver's Ed with Doc. He had us driving all over Midland, laughing and enjoying our ride-around.
Rest In Peace, Doc. You will be greatly missed but we will see you later. To Gayle, Kelly, Jamie and family - thank you for sharing your Doc so unselfishly. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May you feel God's loving arms around you and hold tight to the wonderful memories you share.
Love,

To Gail and the Dodson family Halle and I express our sympathy, but also celebrate with you the wonderfull life Doc lived. Cannot imagine the number of lives this man influenced and became a model for them to look up to, three of which were our sons Steve, Kevin, and Mike . Rest in Peace, Doc. You helped everyone, not just MHS kids. You tended to my whole family. When you attended the basketball games, you recorded the play by play. It seems you were everywhere! You will always be Mr. Bulldog.
