James Ernest Doneghy, 57, of Clifton, Virginia passed away early Wednesday morning, February 11, 2015 from a chronic illness. Jim was a long time associate of Virginia’s wonderful forests, rivers, and parks. He appreciated the outdoors, wide array of landscapes and wildlife. His adventurous pursuits took him throughout New England, Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia & Quebec, Canada.
Jim was born in Clifton on March 22, 1957, son of John Herbert Doneghy & Grace Marion (Lee) Doneghy. He was educated in the Fairfax County Schools and began many of his lifelong friendships on the playground at Clifton Elementary School. Jim was active in the Boy Scouts. He attended Robinson High School.
Jim began working full time for the Berrall Jasper Fence Company, Washington, D.C. where he had worked during earlier summers. He was a fence erector, welder and machine operator for almost 20 years. He was later employed by Ryan Homes in the residential construction business for 10 years. Jim was also an independent contractor and worker, able to apply his knowledge of concrete, welding and mechanics skills. Before his retirement, Jim worked with Albert Sackett Construction Co. and found installing pool, sports court & hardscapes rewarding.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Clifton. He grew up with many friends running through the woods, driving the back roads and camping. He was happiest outdoors when fishing a river or hunting.
Jim is predeceased by his father, mother & sister, Linda Lee Forrester, (Doneghy). Jim is survived by his son Justin Doneghy of Linden, VA and brother, Scott Doneghy and his wife Joanne of Manchester, MA, his niece, Catherine (Katie) Lee Doneghy of Boston, MA and nephew, John William Doneghy of Oroville, CA, brother-in-law Mark Forrester of Irvine, KY and many first, second cousins & friends.
A memorial service at Demaine Funeral Home (Formerly Everly Funeral Home) will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:30 AM located at 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA. by Reverend, Dr. Lynn Stanton-Hoyle, Pastor of the Clifton Presbyterian Church.

Dear family, I wish I could be there with you to honor Jimmy's memory today but I'd had some health issues this last year that make that not possible. Some of the happiest days of my childhood were spent with John and Grace, Linda, Scott and Jimmy down there in Virginia and I will always remember Jimmy and the times we had with a smile. God bless you and I hope to be able to see you in better days.

Dear Jimmy: You were loved by so many and you will be missed so much by all of us. I will especially miss the cards you sent to me on special holidays and left in my mailbox. You always signed them "one of your boys". You really were one of my boys. Go with God, Jimmy.

I remember Jimmy and my brother playing out behind our barn when they were in grade school. I left the area and moved back decades later and Jimmy was all grown up with a son, but still the cheerful, friendly person I remember from my youth. I'll remember him fondly.

Even though we had our ups and downs Jimmy was always there. He was such a wonderful caring man. He was great with my son. And every moring he came up stairs to get his coffee he always wore his cars PJ bottoms just for Logan. And on random says that man would sneak up the steps surprise Logan and being bad boys they loved to do those pop rocks in the house. Lol.
The best part was when he would go out and mowe the lawn wheel in one hand and a beer in the other. Would spend hours out there no matter how many times he went over the same spot. :). RIP "Ice Bandit"

Jimmy "D", what can I say that we all know and loved about you. I probably could write a book. The picture that Keith posted is the way I will always remember you. Peace brother.

You were a great Uncle! Your kindness, allowance for fun and adventure and not to mention your ability to build tree houses made you one of a kind.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Doneghy family and all of Jimmy's friends. There are a lot of people (we are called Cliftonites) who will miss Jimmy deeply, but there are also a few of his friends waiting to welcome him home.
