James F. Ellis

James Frederic Ellis (Jim) of Greenwood, SC passed away on May 21, 2025, at Augusta University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He was born at Mitchel Field, NY on April 23, 1940.

Jim is survived by his wife Dana Sanborn (Glen) Ellis, his daughters Alexandra S. Ellis and Elizabeth H. Ellis, his brothers Jon (Brenda) Ellis and Jeffrey (Carol) Ellis, several nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oldham Ellis and Helen Elizabeth (Glauner) Ellis, and his brother, Joel Ellis.

Jim lived throughout the United States and abroad, following his father's Air Force career. His favorite childhood adventure was their time stationed in Shanghai, China in the 1940s. Jim went to schools in Colorado Springs, CO and graduated from high school in Cheyenne, WY, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in 1963.

Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1973, earning the rank of Captain. He served as a flight officer in F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. His subsequent military career in Intelligence took him to California, North Carolina, Maryland, and Japan. After his military service, Jim earned his MBA at Bryant University. His business career in Logistics took him to Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New York, and South Carolina, where he enjoyed his retirement in Greenwood. He was a life-long stamp and coin collector, enjoyed hunting and fishing in the West, was an avid reader of science fiction, and loved animals of all kinds.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Greenwood, SC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI, or the Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC.
