James Ferrell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2024.
James "JC" Ferrell, of London, WV, went home to be with the Lord on October 28th at the age of 61. Known as a master of mischief and a beloved rascal, his departure has left a JC-sized hole in our hearts. However, his legacy of humor and good-natured troublemaking will continue to bring smiles to those who knew him.

A devoted Rams fan, JC was convinced he was their unofficial coach. During games, he could be found yelling at the TV, offering his "expert" advice to anyone who would listen. Despite his colorful commentary, he truly loved being their biggest fan. This dedication extended to his fantasy football team, where he always claimed, "This is my year to win it all." And it should be noted, he was indeed having his best season yet.

When JC wasn't managing his fantasy team, he could be found fishing along the Kanawha River, enjoying an online game of spades, or sitting on the porch with his dog, Lucy, searching for eagles and watching his hummingbirds.

Above all, JC's greatest love was for his grandkids. They were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. They may never know just how deeply they were loved.

JC is survived by his devoted wife, Renae Ferrell, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge life presented. He was a proud and loving father to his children: Pam (Bert) Gibson, Amber Ferrell, Jeremy (Deanna) Ferrell, and Greg Chapman. He also deeply appreciated and loved his step-sons David (Jacqueline), Daniel (Brittany), and Dustin (Miranda) Burkhardt.

Though he has gone on to reunite with his sister, Pat Chapman, in heaven, JC leaves behind his siblings: Kevin (Melisa) Ferrell, Richard (Denisa) Phelix, Darrell (Sandy) Phelix, Jean Legg, Kim Gruber, and Frank (Norissa) Rupe. He also leaves behind his loving niece, Beverly Legg.

In keeping with his lifelong dedication to helping others, JC made the selfless decision to donate his body to science. This final act of generosity embodies his spirit of giving and will contribute to the advancement of medical research and education. His family takes great comfort in knowing that even in death, JC's desire to help others lives on.

To honor JC's life, friends and family will gather on November 9th at 1 PM at the Multi-Purpose Building, located at 2401 Sissonville Drive in Charleston, WV. This celebration will be filled with laughter, fishing stories, Rams highlights, and plenty of fantasy football banter, all in loving memory of JC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you take a moment to share a laugh and a story, just as JC would have wanted.

Rest in peace, JC. Your impact on the world will endure through your extraordinary gift, and your memory will forever be a blessing to those who knew and loved you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Ferrell family and JC's many friends during this trying time. I met JC maybe a dozen or so years ago through MyLeagues. Such a Great Guy.....a true Competitor! To sit at a table playing against him was always enjoyable and a pleasure. Playing against JC you knew you was playing one of the best around. I read the obituary and all the messages in the Guest Book and it sounds like we all knew the same funny, competitive and caring man. Our hearts hurt together! Rest In Peace JC

We will miss you very much in Spade_Friends, always a fixture in the room, knowing you loved the friendly competition. The obituary was lovely, such a wonderful family man to your crew. Many years of all your partners and socializing with us daily. I feel honored to be a part of hosting as you played for several years. Dear family---thank-you for sharing JC with us, especially difficult in this last week. Seems to have passed much too fast, but he will be flying high and our thoughts and smiles with him. Forever grateful for the opportunity, many hugs for all left behind to carry on in the family. ** Bye Shining light**R.I.P. James....JCRams2001........Joyce

I just want to say that I am sorry for not making time to call or visit you. I know it´s too late to say I am sorry but I really am, life gets in the way & it shouldn´t. I should have done better. My mom sent me a picture of papaw Ferrell & you were in the background. Little did I know you had passed. Rest easy up there. Maybe you & Dad can try to make amends. Love you always, your niece Sherry Dawn
