James Ferrell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2025.
James (Jim) Alexander Ferrell went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Friday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 68.

Jim was born to the late Alex and Dorothy Ferrell on June 15, 1956 in Nashville, Tennessee. Along with his parents, his sister, Anne Taff, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Donna (Cutrell) Ferrell. They met in their high school choir, fell deeply in love and built a beautiful life together. Their relationship was a testament of unwavering love and devotion.

Jim graduated from Maplewood High School in Nashville, then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a crew chief on B-52 bombers. Following his military service, Jim and Donna moved to Memphis, where he earned an associated degree from State Tech and built a distinguished career as a lead mechanic at FedEx, where he worked for 39 years.

A man of many talents and interests, Jim had a deep love for music, creating a home recording studio where he pursued his passion.

He was a godly example for his family, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Over the years, he devoted a lot of time to supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events, always their biggest fan.

Jim was also deeply committed to his church family, Ellendale Baptist Church. He first served with the youth group, then served many years as the church's lead sound engineer, and faithfully served as a deacon. He was heavily involved with the Faith Walk community as well.

Jim is also survived by his children, Brandon Ferrell (Kellie), Jamie Bell (Mike), Logan Ferrell (Brandi), and Kyle Ferrell (Carol Ann); grandchildren, Aaron Bell, Anna Grace Ferrell, Collin Bell, Braxton Ferrell, Alec Ferrell, Tyler Ferrell, Olivia Ferrell, and Grayson Ferrell; sisters, Kathy Garcia, Jane Cottengim (Tim); and brother, Rick Ferrell (Rhonda).

Jim's life was marked by his loving, kind and generous character, and he leaves behind a legacy that will inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on the evening of Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Ellendale Baptist Church, with visitation from 5:00-7:00 and the service at 7:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Wounded Warrior Project or Destiny Rescue, honoring his legacy of faith, family, and service.

Our deepest condolences to Donna, her family, and the Ferrell extended families in this time of sorrow. I knew Jim at FedEx for many years. I remember when he had his house built with his music studio. There were many memories made working with and for Jim over the 28 years I worked for FedEx.

Donna, Brandon, Jamie, Logan, and Kyle, Debbie and I are so sorry for your loss. We have known all of you long enough to consider you as extended members of our own family. We will never forget the hospitality of the Ferrell household every time we would visit. I always looked forward to bringing my guitar and playing while Donna, Jim, Debbie and I would sing praises to the Lord. Each time the Lord would give me new songs, I couldn't wait to share them with Donna and watch Jim smiling as she gave new life to the songs with her God-given voice. Each Sunday I looked forward to the hugs from Jamie, and the jumping into my arms from Kyle for a big hug (couldn't do that today...I would be taken out on a stretcher). Jim may have been the kindest male friend I've ever had and his love for the Lord could not be hidden, it just had a natural flow, and his countenance spoke volumes about his faith. The love of the entire Ferrell family stands out as a reflection of Jim and he will be missed in many ways. We love you all and will be praying for the Lord to console you and help you navigate the loss of Jim, who I consider to be an icon at Ellendale Baptist Church and a man I respected and loved. God bless you all!!

Jim so loved his LORD, his family, and mission works for Jesus. After we videoed in 2017 and 2018 at Ellendale Baptist Church, he, Donna, and I instinctively walked out of the church singing the hymn, "Where He Leads Me I will Follow."

I wanted to say so many precious memories! When he and I would talk about dear Donna, I was so touched that he always said, "my lovely wife". I appreciate the videos that he uploaded to my youtube channel. He will be missed so much until we all are raptured to third heaven.

I worked for Jim many years at FedEx and he was one of the finest guys I ever worked for. He always had his guys back, no matter what. He coached my kids in little league in the mid 90s and I coached Kyle one year. He was a man of faith and great character and one of the coolest things about him was he lived his faith, he didn't preach unless you asked and he never belittled you about your faith (or lack of it) even if he disagreed. He walked the walk, as Jesus would have. I'll miss him greatly and am damn glad to have known him. Much love tonhis family.
