Friends from Brazil missing you

Prof. Ferrer was a great inspiration for all his students. It was an enormous honor for me to know him and to learn from him.

Jim was a great friend and I was grateful for having had the opportunity to collaborate with him. He loved Brazil and its people and worked tirelessly to improve the dialogue and understanding between US and Brazil.

Nos conhecemos nos tempos de gloria da cidade do Rio de janeiro, onde a alegria que se respirava conduzia a um sentido de solidariedade que exaltava a Vida e a Amizade como valores que nos pareciam perenes.
Mais tarde nos encontramos em Lisboa esporadicamente no período que se iniciou com a revolução de 1974. Tornaram se(Jim e Dolores) Amigos da família e sempre os lembramos com Amizade e carinho.
Jim pertencia ao raro grupo de pessoas que sempre procuram fazer a felicidade dos outros. Quanto a mim é um dos maiores elogios que se pode fazer a um Ser Humano.
A energia que emanaram durante a vida permanecerá entre nós que afinal somos condutores de diferentes tipos de energia cuja origem permanece um mistério para todos. Até sempre amigo!

Mr James Ferrer Jr. was a visionary, a master, an angel who worked hard to help and bring better opportunities in the people's lives. I am very grateful for being one of his students in The Minerva Program. God bless Professor Ferrer and bring peace into the heart of his Family.

I did not know Jim, as well as I would have liked to know him. However, I've known Dolores for many years. She is lucky to have shared so many years with such a wonderful man, and loving husband.

Such a loss will be widely and deeply felt. A rare mix of discipline and generosity, Dr. Ferrer did leave an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of so many, as well as in many places. I am sure that, soon, the good memories of a lifetime will wash away the sorrow which is now being felt by those who were closer to him.

Jim was truly a "prince among men"--in our hearts forever.

Prof. Ferrer's dedication to the cause of education and his tireless fight for a better understanding between Brazil and the U.S. will remain an example for hundreds of Brazilians who had the opportunity to be inspired by his intelligence and generosity. He shall rest in piece.

My condolences to Jim's family and friends. Jim did a great job at the Institute of Brazilian Issues (IBI/George Washington University), providing relevant teaching and tools to the public managers in Brazil.

So sorry about the news. I have known Jim for over 20 years. He was a Godly man and will be missed.

Gwyn and I are thinking of Jim and our lives together in Brasilia. Jim was a wonderful friend, colleague and a good boss( He was DCM and I was Political Counselor). I tried and tried to beat him at tennis mornings and evenings at our courts. He always seemed to get in that critical "lucky" shot. We worked closely under the special guidance of Amb. Harry Shlaudeman.

And it brings good thoughts. I am glad to have known Jim and to have had that time with him those years ago in Brazil.
