Champion- James R. Ferry Sr., age 69, died on Friday, March 4, 2011, at his residence. He was born on February 24, 1942, in Warren, a son of the late Albert Ferry Sr. and the late Mary Primrose Ferry. Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy (1960-1964). He attended St. William Catholic Church, retired from Thomas Steel Strip after 30 years and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion Post 699, the USS Henley DD762 Association and the United Steelworkers Union. His first wife, Gloria Bezjak Ferry, whom he married in 1967, preceded him in death on October 20, 1996. Jim is survived by his second wife, Wendy Kidwell-Lewis Ferry, whom he met in 1997; 4 sons, James Ferry Jr. of Warren, Daniel (Dawn) Ferry of Brunswick, OH, Michael Ferry Sr. of Cortland and Kevin Ferry of Concord, OH, a brother, Frank (Beverly) Ferry Sr. of Cortland and 4 sisters, Emily Starcher of Fowler, Mary Petiya of Warren, Dorothy Barr of Leavittsburg and Betty Marko of Warren and 13 grandchildren. Also surviving is Mrs. Angie Bezjak, Christy Ferry, Amber Hites, Samantha Ferry and his best friend, Charles Berry. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Albert Ferry Jr., John Brusie and by 3 sisters, Evelyn Sliokaitis, Lucille Barr and Rose “Cookie” Sullivan. Special thanks to the staff of Pinnacle Health Care, Celtic Hospice and his neighbors for all of their care and support. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm at the Roberts Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Funeral services will be at St. William Catholic Church on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11am. Burial will be at the All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
