Being Sheila's sister, Mr. Gill was part of my life for over 30 years with tales of the rich, famous, political and religious people who came throughout his career.

I can't let another day go by without expressing my condolences to Jim's family. He was an incredible person and will always be remembered for his humanitarianism, warmth, compassion and a wonderful smile. JIm traveled to the Soviet Union on behalf of the Greater NY Conference for Soviet Jewry, when visiting there was difficult and unsettling. He represented a Russian Jewish prisoner amongst others and intervened on his behalf with the authorities. Because of Jim's efforts and other legal giants like him, Iosif Begun was able to emigrate to Israel and enjoy freedom with family and friends - something he feared would never happen. Jim's determination and soft spoken presentation impressed all of us and for his efforts to personally take on this fight he will be forever remembered and cherished. He was a hero and champion of the Jewish people.

On behalf of the NY Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund Board I would like to extend sincere condolences on the passing of this great man. As with every position he ever held, James F. Gill provide wise counsel and bright humor in service to this Public Benefit Corporation. As a personal acquaintance I found Jim to be a warm and wonderful human being who brightened every meeting. If he were giving a speech about himself he would have to note that the world will miss this pretty terrific fellow and more importantly, proud Marine.

Dear Gill family: Jim was a wonderful mentor and I considered him a friend as I sat by him on the bar stool for many years at the Yale Club. He was an inspiring leader, devoted to his family and particularly his grandson, James, whom he told me all about. He was a wonderful man and I will dearly miss seeing him and seeking his wise counsel. He is blessed by the father and will be at peace, I am sure.

Much love to the Gill Family. What a great man Jim Gill was - his humor, big laugh and spirit will endure. I have no doubt my father was waiting at the gate for him to arrive and together they are celebrating their shared love of Holy Cross, Fordham and the Marines!
You are in my heart and prayer ❤

Jim was the consummate Irish Catholic Gentleman. Smart, witty and deeply concerned about the welfare of others. I worked with Jim during the Pataki administration and he is one of the unsung heroes of the recovery of lower Manhattan after the terrorists attacks of September 11. His leadership and compassion as Chair of Battery Park City Authority played an integral role in the recovery of those attacks. One of the many times in Jim's career he answered the call for public service.
Just a wonderful man. So lucky to have had him as a friend.

To the Gill Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Dear Frank and Rose --
I was so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. He was so warm and kind to me during my Bryan Cave days. We would joke that we were cousins(as my grandmother's mother was a Gill and from Ireland). He was so proud of both of you as parents and professionals -- as well your children. Keeping you, your mother and entire family in my thoughts and prayers. Mary Clare Bonaccorsi, Chicago
