Jim Groves passed away peacefully in Marysville, Washington on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 81. Jim was born August 15, 1939, was predeceased by his parents, Gail M. (Cobb) Peterson and Vernon G. Groves; his wife of 55 years, Joanna C. (Walker) Groves, and his daughter, Jenifer L. Groves. Jim is survived by his loving family: sister, Karen Groves of Sequim; his daughter, Janyne (Groves) Moynihan; and son-in-law, Denis Moynihan. Jim was a proud graduate of Port Townsend High School, and a graduate of Central Washington University. He owned and operated his own business for over 35 years, was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, and was active with the Everett Sail and Power Squadron. He loved boating and visiting with family and friends. To honor his wishes, we will have a private service on the water for all three who have passed. Jim was an excellent friend. He was my mentor for the first 10 years at least of my career beginning with Evans polish Corporation in Aberdeen. We spend money hours talking about how life work and how sometimes it doesn't work. He was instrumental in helping me make career decisions including my move to associated general contractors it 1974. We remain great friends for decades until I move to Arizona. I knew his wife and met his children when they lived near Montesano. And again when they move to Marysville. My deepest condolences to those who survive him and Joanna. God bless you all oh, and God bless my dear friend James L Groves

Both Jim and his delightful wife Joanna were wonderful people and they touched many lives in the world, especially in our Everett Sail and Power Squadron boating group. We are all better off for having known them both. We will remember their smiles, compassion, tenacity and steadfastness. They always made time for others. Let the memories of them both fill our hearts with hope for the future right now and take away the sadness. Forever in our hearts, Jim and Joanna.....

It was a pleasure to work for Jim and Joanna Groves. They helped me so very much become the person I am today, starting out in the field of work I still do and helped put me through school to further my career. I started working for them in 1987 and I really enjoyed them. Joanna once published a short funny story in a small magazine, I forget the name, of something funny I did while working and it made it in to the magazine! I remember them with love. Their company parties were always so much fun. RIP together now Jim and Joanna. Prayers and condolences to the family and friends.

Robert and I met Jim and Joanna Groves when they were members of the Everett Sail and Power Squadron. I remember Jim was our Education Officer for 3 years and he was great in that position. Jim was such a fun man to be around and always had a smile and made us laugh. We are so sorry to hear he had passed away. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Janyne and Denis, Jim and Joanna's only surviving daughter and her husband. We have missed Jim at the meetings for the last several years and boating in his beautiful boat. Jim, now you and Joanna (I'm sure she's been waiting for you) can sail away together into the beautiful sunset off the coast off Washington State. May you have fair winds my friend.
With heart felt sympathy,

Jim and I go back to grade school days, both living at the head of Discovery Bay and going to PortTownsend schools together. Country living was a wonderful lifelong bond in shared memories and values. Sadly he is gone too soon, may he rest eternally in peace.
