I would like to offer my deepest sorrow to the entire Haines family. As a child I lived next door to the deceased's sister's home and directly across the street from his parents' home. Such treasured memories of life on Calumet Blvd. and of my grandfather's (George Bloomer's) friendship with Mr. Haines.
Bountiful blessings,
Dr. Linda L. Bielowski

Dear Haines Family,
I hope your loss can be assuaged some by the knowledge that so many remember James as someone who made their world a better place, because of the person he was and the things he did. I knew him as the father of one of my best friends ever, Janet, and her brother and sisters. Knowing James, Elsie, and the family for the time I did, when I was lucky enough that they included me in their lives, has left me with memories that I will cherish forever.

Rest in peace Former Mayor James A, Haines. You will always be "The Mayor" to me! Thank you for your service to Harvey, Illinois. And thank you for swearing me in as a Harvey Police Officer on August 30, 1980. I will remember you and that day forever.

To the Family of Jim Haines: My Memories of Jim go back to the time when he was mayor of Harvey and I worked at the Kerr Funeral Home. Jim could always lighten the load of people who were burdened heavily, but he was also a very gentel person who always knew what to say and when to say it. He will be missed by a lot of people, but his legacy in the city of Harvey and with his family will go on for generations to come. May God give each of you the comfort and peace that each of you needs at this time.
Sincerely,
Glenn Smits

Mrs, Haines, Jim, Cindy, Janet, and Nancy,
It's been a whole lot of years, but I've often recalled with fondness the memories of your clan up at Magician Lake. What a gift your dad had, that decades later, his antics still make me laugh whenever I think of them.
It's horrible to say goodbye. What will be a tremendous comfort and gift in the days, months, and years ahead will be all the quips, jokes, and stories about him that you all have accumulated. There's enough material to supply you with memories for a lifetime.
Each time you recount a story about your dad, every time you sense his hand guiding you, all the times that you will miss him, he is with you. No one can forget this remarkable man.
