Gretna……….James Bennett Hammock, age 66 of Gretna, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his residence.
Born June 26, 1953 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late John Thomas Hammock and Myrtle Barber Hammock. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ray Hammock, Raleigh Hammock and Walter Hammock; and three sisters, Catherine Shelton, Shirley Biggs and Mary Moore. Mr. Hammock was a program analyst; he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the guitar.
He is survived by two brothers, Grady Hammock and wife, Pat of Long Island and Roger Hammock and wife, Jewell of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Carlene Collins of Danville and Brenda Waters and husband, Mitch of Pittsville; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Per his request there will be no public service.

Brenda and Mitch I am so sorry to hear this news. James was a good friend and we enjoyed many times out with him playing cards for fun and he did love fishing. Praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time. Know that Melvin and I are thinking of you all.
