James Harrington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 14, 2025.
James Edwin "Jim" Harrington, 85, of Moore Haven, Florida, passed away on April 25, 2025. Born on September 26, 1939, in Ludington, Michigan, Jim led a full life of service, adventure, and music.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jim served with honor during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he dedicated three decades to the Mason County Sheriff's Department in Michigan, retiring as a respected Deputy Sergeant.

Jim's love for life was evident in everything he did. An accomplished accordion player, he brought joy to countless gatherings through his music. He found both peace and adventure sailing the waters of Lake Michigan and exploring the open road on motorcycle trips-always accompanied by his devoted wife and lifelong partner, Ayako. Known for his captivating storytelling and signature humor, Jim entertained those around him with tales from his work and travels.

He is survived by Ayako, his beloved wife of 65 years, and their seven children: Arlene Harrington Wolff (Erwin), Jim S. Harrington, Anna Harrington Fahling (Jonathan), Raymond Harrington (Sheila), Margie Harrington Phillips (Danny), Marsha Harrington Formicola, and Michael Harrington. He also leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 9 nieces and nephews.

Jim's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and were touched by his warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Jim will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Patriot Angels, reflecting Jim's passions and dedicated service.

I call Arlene Harrington Wolff one of my best friends. I've been blessed to hear many of the stories that were shared in Jim's obituary. My heart goes out to the family and friends that will feel the whole that this man has left. On the other hand I see years of stories and memories being shared as his legacy continues

My condolences to the family of Jim. I was sorry to hear of his passing. I worked for the Maso Co. Sheriff Dept from 1974 thru 1977 and spent many nights working with Jim. He was one tough guy, but also full of fun. We shared many laughs together. May he rest in peace.
