Judy, I'm just now finding out about Jim's passing. What a beautiful tribute was written about him, and I heartily agree with what a kind, caring and fun-loving man he was. When we lived in Norfolk, my kids became so attached to him. Whenever he was doing a painting job, Melissa would be sure to wear a dress and get all gussied up! This was as a toddler!!! Noelle fondly remembers Jim letting her paint the outside of our house--near the bottom where she could reach! He was exceptionally kind to my son, Tom, who, at that time, had great speech difficulties. They all remember your chickens and pot-bellied pig and the slide for the pig!!! I never got to know your kids, but I do remember him talking about how proud he was of all of them--and you! What a great family you all are! With heartfelt sympathy, The Gorman Family

I loved his humor, his smile, his voice and his painters pants...oh, and his taste in music! And I liked that he liked my hair LOL. I am so very sad to learn that he has left this Earth and sadder still to know he struggled with illness prior. If ever a person deserved smooth sailing, it was him. He was a gift as is his lovely wife. Thank you for sharing him with me. Peace to Kathy & Bob, Michael & Sue and kids, Mia and kids, and Patrick. And a huge hug and love and strength to Judy from a widow who understands. I love you all!

I have found memories of Mr. Hazlett as a young, skinny, tall teacher with a calm voice and easy smile. He was my supervisor for an independent study in US History at a time when L&G was experimenting with open classrooms and small, medium and large groups. (L&G Class of 1975)

Mr. Hazlett was one of my favorite teachers at Leland and Gray and always treated us with respect, like even teenagers had ideas worth listening to. His gentle humor and quick wit made his classes enjoyable and we left feeling like we had something to contribute to the world! The world needs more teachers like him! He made a difference in the lives of many!~Billie Slade (L&G Class of 1976)

I have not known Jim since we were eighteen years old...a long, long time ago.
However, all the beautiful comments made about him in the write-up were there when we were 18 and these qualities caused me to believe Jim was one of the finest people I knew then. He was a 'hero' to me. I am so happy these wonderful qualities remained and grew throughout his life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hazlett family during this difficult time. Paul will miss Jim's vibrant political debates and good natured political jabs but we will mostly miss his uninhibited smile, wonderful stories and passion for everything and everyone that was important to him. He will be missed.
