James Patton (Jim) Hill of Maryville, born August 31, 1943 and passed away April 29, 2013 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1961 and worked early on in Washington D.C. with the CIA. He returned to Blount County to continue his college education at Hiwassee and UT. He worked 32 years as manager and adjuster with Transamerica Insurance. Jim served as Chair of the County Commission, a total of 16 years on the Blount County Commission and never lost interest in the people of Blount County. He served on several other committees and boards, including 911 Communications, Children's Home, Community Action, Cable, Sheriff's Committee and others. Jim also built and spent much on his time at Hills Market, which has served as a community hub for the past 39 years. Through its daily operation, he has touched the lives of the people of the community. He helped organize Chilhowee View Community Center, serving on its board and as an officer through the years. He has given much time and funding to help sustain the community center. Outside of work and community service, Jim's main focus was on family. Some of his hobbies include antique cars, cattle farming, gardening, cooking, hiking, building/remodeling, and living the good life as he would say. The memories he has bestowed upon his family and friends will not be forgotten. Preceded in death by: Father & Mother, Dave and Ella Hill; Infant Daughter. He is survived by: Wife of 48 years, Judy Abbott Hill; Son, Derrick Hill; Daughter-in-law, Katherine Hill; Grandson, Ranger Hill; Granddaughter, Alexandria Hill; Brothers, Rex, Max, David, and Luke Hill; Sisters, Margaret Satterfield, Glenda Storie, and Nell Tipton. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Rex Everett and Rev. Tim Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Chilhowee View Community Center Pavilion Fund, 3229 Wilkinson Pike, Maryville, TN 37803 in Jim's memory. Family and friend will assemble at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithMaryville.com.
