The entire USOPC sends our sincerest sympathy to "Doc" family and friends. Here are a few images of "Doc" in action in Athens and Beijing. Always a team player, Never forgotten.

We were shocked and saddened to learn a high school classmate and friend had left us in January. Jim will be remembered for promoting sports, sportsmanship, and practicing healthful habits. Jim will be greatly missed by so many, and the SHS Classes of 1952 and 1953.

To the Family of Coach Hilyer, my Condolences to the entire Family. I played for Coach Hilyer on the UAB Club Team and I played for him on the Alabama Raider semi pro team simultaneously in Gadsden. Coach was not only a great man but he was a Humanitarian. He always had words of encouragement for me and the Team. I will miss you Coach. RIP George

I had the utmost respect for coach Hilyer. I remember most about his weight program In which he titled the PTA program (Pain, Torture, Agony). He was a tough but fair man.

Coach Hilyer recruited me to play Football at Auburn in 1973 from Miami, Fl. Later we coached the Auburn JV team, for 2 years, while Hilyer was our head coach. We had 2 wining seasons. Coach Hilyer was a leader in our Auurn FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Program and taught all of us much about leading a Jesus centered Life. Coach Hilyer was a Friend, Leader, Teacher and Coach.

My husband (Ronald Hagood Sr) really thought a lot of Coach Hilliard. Although he never played ball or anything. He just knew him as being a great coach. When we went to see UAB play we always watched the coach running up & down the sidelines yelling out encouragement to the players.
