Jim was a colleague and friend of mine since the mid-1990s. Most recently we caught up with each other when we happened to meet at the Macomb County Probate Courthouse. I share your grief and shock in this tragic loss for all of us, including the local and state bar. I found Jim to have a heart of gold -- one of the most sincere people I have had the pleasure to meet. And, as others have noted, he was contemplative, sensitive, and had a strong legal mind. All the while this was against the background of a kind heart, a pleasant and open sense of humor, and a kind demeanor. I am glad to have had Jim as a friend and colleague. In truth, a model lawyer and gentleman. A class act from start to finish. He lifted up our profession, and our profession will suffer as a result of Jim's leaving us. I really cared about him as a lawyer and as a man. I am so saddened about this, but I am grateful and somewhat comforted in sharing with you all in our collective grief through this medium and otherwise. Sincerest and warmest condolences to Jim's family, all who loved him, all who knew him well, and the multitude of others who will miss him.

Although I had not seen Jim in a few years, I have very fond memories of him from when we served together as board members as part of the Macomb County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Jim was usually upbeat in handling our endeavors and possessed a great sense of humor and quick wit. He will be missed by his colleagues in the legal community.

Dear Ellen, Sadly we know the loss of a child but only God know why. A priest told me when Chris died that God doesn't make mistakes so Jim must have been needed in heaven. We will keep you all in our prayers.

James T. Hogan, Jim Hogan, was a friend of mine. I will miss him. I first met Jim when we both attended Detroit College of Law in the Mid-80's. Back then we were more acquaintances than friends. I ran into him again around 1995 when we both shared office space in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Later he and I would be law partners for a long time. That is when we became friends. Jim was one of the smartest lawyers I ever met. Heck, he was one of the smartest people I have ever met. If I asked Jim for an opinion on a legal issue about one minute after I had finished stating my question I usually had a concise well articulated answer with citations that I could and would adopt on my own client's behalf.
Jim could be a little, let us say quirky. He loved his Star Trek, its conventions, and its imagined technology. On more then one occasion he reminded me that he was using email and the Internet years before I and most other people had even heard of either one. He was not bragging he was just telling me the facts.
Jim was always a giver never a taker. He liked serving on his condominium board. He was glad to just have the opportunity to serve. He gave generously to those causes he supported such as the Boy Scouts of America.
Jim loved his family. He seemed to always be talking about his mom, dad, his siblings, nieces and nephews. I would see a new book and some wrapping paper on his office desk and knew it must be someone in the family's birthday which it always was. Jim was always a big advocate for reading especially for the young children.
Jim was a kind, sensitive man. He was heartbroken when his cat died. He loved animals. Jim liked humans too. He was good man, a kind man, and a caring man.. Jim always inquired about how my family was doing and rejoiced with me when they were doing well and commiserated with me when they were not. He had a good ear. He was always willing to listen and not judge.
I miss James T. Hogan, l miss my friend Jim Hogan.

To the Hogan family, my deepest condolences. I met Jim as a student at the University of Detroit. We were active in the Republican Party together when Jim still lived in Detroit. I'm also an attorney and would see him at different courthouses. I know he struggled after his stroke. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, Rest In Peace, Amen
