Dear Hogan Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Jimmy's passing. Jimmy was a friend and teammate when we were in high school. He was a gifted athlete, but an even better person -- someone you always enjoyed being around. Some of my fondest memories are of time spent with him, his brother Ben, and their brothers and sisters. Although we lost touch over the years, often when I came back home I would hear good things about him and the work he was doing as a Newport News Police Officer. I know he will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but I hope you will take comfort in all the good he did for others through his kindness, his wonderful sense of humor, and his public service.

Jennifer, Abby and Chris I am so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. The first time I met Jimmy was when he became a part of the police family. He was assigned to me and the Capt. instructed "look out for him, he isn't old enough to buy bullets for his weapon yet." We laughed about that for many years as we worked together. He was a great man and officer. He was well respected by all and accomplished many things for the benefit of the citizens of Newport News. I loved working with Jimmy for many years and loved playing golf with him to. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. May God comfort the family and give you peace during this difficult time.

Jimmy's family I also greive your loss.
Once in Poly Leauge they tried to intentialy walk Jimmy. As the 4th ball came high and outside Jimmy reached over the plate and it to the right field wall for a home run to win the game. The drive he had that day stayed with him the rest of his life. P.I.P. Thin blue line.

Dear Jennifer and Abigail, James and family,
I want to let you know how much I loved Jimmy. He played football for me in l961 at Parkview. He was so lovely to coach and so appreciative. He was a go getter on the football field. He later went to NNHS an was an outstanding quarterback. He threw 9 touchdown passes against Warwick High School in 1966. He never bragged about it, he just went along as a sweet, wonderful, nice person. Each time I saw him, he was so full of love & appreciation for me coaching him as a kid. I met his family and they came to my house to tell me how much they appreciated my coaching him as a kid. I will miss him and his love & appreciation as he always conveyed to me. I know he is in Heaven. With all my love, Mickey and Carol Marcella

The first time I met Mr. Hogan was at Abby's 20th birthday party. Having the opportunity to be seated right next to him I got to learn a lot of great things about him and the things he did. One was that he was a avid History enthusiast who knew his history more than most do as well as he liked to play golf and ride his Harley-Davidson. And if I recall he loved his coffee. One thing he did tell me was that he loved his Abby! It was a great honor to be able to meet Mr.Hogan the couple of times that I did. And I will carry that moment we had for the rest of my life. But most importantly I was privileged to meet my Best Friends Dad!

Prayers are sent to the family and friends of Jimmy. We went to Briarfield School in the early 1960s and I worked a short while in the NN Police Dept. Behind the school we had a baseball field and we were like 12 or 13 years old and on Facebook just 3 days ago we were talking about great players and Jimmy was one of them. it was also noted how nice and polite that Jimmy and Ben were. That statement follows you all through your life. So I just wanted to say that you really had a son and friend to be proud of and I just wanted to let you know even after all these years that I remembered.
