Great writer, loved his stuff. He will be sorely missed.

I was friends with Jimmy and Claudie 40 years ago, in Palma, then London. Many great evenings were spent talking and laughing. The last time I actually saw Jimmy was 1982. We met by accident at the Hotel Victoria in Mallorca (though we both now lived in the U.S.). He was interviewing for a book; I had fled a boyfriend's home on the island.
What a small world! I never really saw Jimmy again. But every few years, he'd track down me down. I'd pick up the phone and be taken aback by that sweet Texan voice. We'd catch-up on current lives and past memories. Jimmy was always ready to laugh, so caring and real.Jimmy & Claudie were my role models for great parenting. Recently, we E-mailed, and I contemplated a visit to Austin. Now I will forever regret not making it to see Jimmy -- truly one of the nicest people I've ever known. But I'll be sure to see Claudie. My heart goes out to her... and to Marc and Jamie, and their families.

We have all lost a great one!

I knew Jimmy for too short a time, but quickly came to treasure him as a delightful man of deep integrity. He will be greatly missed.

It was a pleasure to know JImmy, he was great fun on and off the bicycle and at our monthly dinners. I'm so glad we have the memories of going to France with him and Claudie and our cycling group.

If it wasn't for Jimmy (and Julia) picking me up in the mornings in their yellow Willes soft-top; I would not have graduated from Highland Park as I wouldn't have been in class...
What a joy to have known you.

We could discuss anything. He was open of mind and open of heart.

I knew Jimmy only in the later stages of his life, but that was a treasure. This is shocking news. My heart goes out to Claudie and the family.
