James "Jim" Dittmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2024.
James (Jim) Edward Dittmer of Oklahoma City went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2024. Jim was born on March 26, 1931 to W.E. and Bernice Dittmer in Oklahoma City, where he spent his elementary and junior high school years. The family then moved to Oney, and he graduated from high school at Alfalfa where he participated in band/orchestra, FFA, 4-H, basketball, and art. He received his BA of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma, while spending the summers working for the forestry service in Idaho.

Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during his college years. Studying God's Word and serving Him were top priority in Jim's life. He worked with children and youth in the bus ministry, teaching Sunday School and Training Union, and served as a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church. He was also involved in Spring Creek Baptist Church, Calvary Chapel, and Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Jim set his sights on turning his artistic talent into a career, building a successful life-long Residential Design business. He designed many homes as well as churches and other buildings in Oklahoma City and beyond.

Jim and Carolyn met at Trinity Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where they were married on June 17, 1961. Three children - Gina, Mark, and Kirk - completed the family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dittmer of Oklahoma City; daughter, Gina Dittmer of Oklahoma City; son, Mark Dittmer of Oklahoma City; older sister, Frances Bradley of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma; and younger sister, Ann Holsclaw of California; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his youngest son, Kirk Dittmer; father, W.E. Dittmer; mother, Bernice Dittmer; brother, Paul Dittmer; sister, Ruth McDown; brother-in-law, Marvin Bradley; brother-in-law William (Bill) McDown; and brother-in-law, William (Bill) Holsclaw.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jim's life at Heritage Baptist Church, 14317 North Council Road, Oklahoma City, OK on July 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Heritage Baptist Church and note Missions Fund on the memo line.

I did not have the privilege of knowing Mr. Dittmer only his daughter, Gina, who thought highly of both her parents. I thank him and his wife for serving the Lord and a raising caring daughter.

I remember Jim and Carolyn helping with a lot of the activities when I was growing up at Trinity. Jim was a quiet and calm man who helped bring order to the chaos of working with young folks. We were blessed to have him as a member of our church. His was a life well lived for the Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Carolyn, Gina, and Mark.
