James "Jim" Horsburgh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2025.
Weatherford - Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 2, 2025 St. Eugene Catholic Church, Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.

James H. Horsburgh, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

James (Jim) Horsburgh was born on December 17, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James W. and Sybil M. Horsburgh. He spent his childhood in Cleveland and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably with assignments in Greece, and the Philippines.

On September 11, 1965, Jim was united in marriage to Paula J. Meckel in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple later moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he attended the University of Colorado. Jim earned a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in business education in 1973.

That same year, Jim and Paula relocated to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where they made their home and raised their two children, Jimmy and Katie. From 1973 to 1978, Jim taught management courses at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. In 1978, he began a long and successful career with Edward Jones as an investment representative. He remained with Edward Jones until his retirement in 2017.

An avid golfer, Jim cherished time spent on the golf course and was an active and enthusiastic member of the Weatherford Rotary Club. Jim also found great joy in following his favorite baseball team, the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Indians).

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sybil, and his sister, Donna. He is survived by his son, Jimmy, and daughter-in-law, Abby, of Edmond; his daughter, Katie, and son-in-law, Bob Bartmann, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Carson and Nikelle Horsburgh of Edmond, and Maggie Bartmann of Weatherford.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Weatherford Regional Hospital Foundation.
