I was so fortunate to work with Jim when we were both young reporters at The Edwardsville Intelligencer in Illinois. Jim was the quintessential journalist. He reported the news, he uncovered wrongdoing, all in the mission of telling the readers the truth. He was the star on our very small staff.

In addition to being a superb journalist, he was an absolutely wonderful human being. He was more than a co-worker. He was a real and true friend. He was a man who put the "human" in human being.

The world is a better place because Jim Orso was here. Those of us who knew him can only hold him in our hearts and do our best to follow the beautiful example he set.

I met and got to know Jim on an ACTS retreat with the St Gabriel's parish in St Louis, MO. I remember his thoughtful approach, quiet demeanor and affable nature. He let his light shine and his lamp for Christ was always lit for all to see. RIP Jim.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

My most heartfelt condolences to the Orso family.

I met Jim through his son Joe, who had moved to La Crosse to work as a reporter at the Tribune - where I was the Librarian. Joe and I became fast friends, and in time, I met his family.

Jim and I had a very special connection. We were both musicians; we both loved sports; and we loved words and puns.

I will always treasure my memories of Jim and take heart in knowing that he is at peace.

I am saddened to hear of Jim's passing but I also rejoice in knowing Jim is home. Though I only knew Jim and his family a short time, I carry with me the love grace and joy they carried with them and generously share with others. Love to all of you.
