James (Jim) Pauli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 8 to Jul. 10, 2023.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of James (Jim) Frances Pauli, who unexpectedly succumbed to complications during heart surgery on June 22, 2023. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.

Jim was born on May 20, 1960, at El Camino Hospital to Frank and Rita Pauli, was the youngest of their five children and raised in Los Altos, California. He attended St. Williams School and Los Altos High School. Jim earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and played basketball for the Mustangs, where he continued to make lasting memories and create deep connections.

Throughout his successful career as a mechanical engineer at ACCO for more than 30 years, he approached his profession with integrity, expertise, a strong work ethic and was viewed by many as a mentor in his field.

Jim was a loving husband to Wendy, and together they shared a bond built on mutual love, respect and adventure. Their marriage was a shining example of commitment and partnership, and they shared loving homes dividing their time between Monte Sereno and Arnold, and created many precious moments together.

Jim was a proud father to his children, Jessica and Derek. He cherished every moment spent with them and took great joy in watching them grow into remarkable individuals. Jessica married Brendon Epple. They live in Australia and became the proud parents of two beautiful boys, Austin James and Eddie Kelly, who brought immense happiness and joy into Jim's (JPa's) life. With Derek living closer, in Sacramento, Jim was able to see him often to enjoy each other's company for an afternoon at a Giants game or an easy barbecue dinner by the pool.

Family meant everything to Jim, and he was a beloved son to his parents. He was a caring and supportive brother to his siblings and their spouses, Trish Pratt (Doug), Bob Pauli (Martha), Andy Pauli (Lori) and Judy Bayse. He also had a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews, who looked up to him as a role model. Jim's presence brought laughter and warmth to family gatherings.

An adventurer at heart, Jim engaged in a wide range of sports and outdoor activities throughout his life. He loved to golf and cycle, was an enthusiastic snow skier and embraced the thrill of carving through fresh powder and navigating challenging slopes with finesse. Water sports also captivated Jim's spirit, as he reveled in the excitement of boating, water skiing and wake surfing. Jim loved to sing along and dance to music, filling the room with his infectious energy.

Alongside his beloved wife, Jim embarked on numerous adventures around the world. From exotic beaches and remote mountains to far away urban areas, he sought to expand his knowledge and communicate with people from different cultures and backgrounds. While he didn't quite master new languages, his effort and enthusiasm in practicing was always appreciated. He had a knack for accumulating nicknames that stuck, Jimbo, JP, Jimbopaulison, Jimbosanski, and many more.

Jim will be remembered with love as a dedicated family man, a loving husband, a devoted father, caring brother, a supportive son, and beloved friend to those who knew him. His unwavering commitment to his family and friends, coupled with his warm and giving nature, created a legacy of love and togetherness that will forever be cherished. His vibrant personality radiated joy and enthusiasm and the impact he had on his family and friends will continue to inspire and guide them as they navigate life's journey.

The loss of Jim is deeply felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished and his spirit remembered. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at La Rinconada Country Club on Tuesday, July 18. Friends and family are invited to gather and share their memories of a remarkable man whose impact on their lives will never be forgotten. Please RSVP at http://evite.me/M68K9JGdNQ.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim's memory to the Good Karma Bikes (https://goodkarmabikes.org/donate/) or the Arnold Rim Trail Association (https://arnoldrimtrail.org/donate/). Jim and our hopes were kept alive in his final days through blood and the possibility of organ donations. Consider connecting Jim's legacy and the hope for healing by becoming a blood or organ donor. Contributions in Jim's name will honor his legacy and continue the positive impact he had on the world.

Jim will be in our hearts forever. Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Pauli family. I was Jim´s basketball teammate at Los Altos HS from our Freshman year through Junior year before moving to Aptos. Jim was my favorite teammate with his great positive attitude , smile. and support. We have many great memories together from out three years on Knights basketball. Jim. was the most pure basketball player on our team .
I wish I had stayed in closer contact with Jim after moving away from Los Altos .I have nothing but positive memories of Jim, such a great guy to be with . Couldn´t have been a nicer person at Los Altos HS.
Wish i could have been a La Riconada today , sure there were great stories about Jim
RIP Jim. ,we will all miss you! You were a tremedous person, one of the best!

I wanted to share my condolences to the entire family and Jim´s close friends and people he touched in life. I went to grammar and high school with Jim. He was on the varsity boys basketball team and I was on the varsity girls basketball team. After practice one day, I´d sprained my ankle and was trying to hobble on one foot up the uphill corridor. Jim and Doug Letts saw me weeping and struggling and the next thing I knew, Jim picked me up and carried me to someone´s convertible car and they drove me the one block to my house. That´s Jim´s heart I knew from grammar school. He was a year ahead of me but I never forgot about his kindness and especially going out of his way to help me get home when I was injured. Bless you, Jim. I´m sorry about your untimely passing but know without a shadow of a doubt that you are watching over your family and friends. May God hold your family in His arms as they experience this sad and new journey without your physical presence. Love never ends.
