IN LOVING MEMORY

MARCH 20, 1959 - MARCH 11, 2025

I have never stopped thanking God for you. - Ephesians 1:16

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of James "Jim" Marion Rhodes. Jim was born March 20, 1959, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025 at his home in Spring, Texas, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, and sons-in-law.

Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cindy Flores Rhodes of New Orleans; their two daughters, Stephanie Rhodes (Charles Batla) and Allison Rhodes Buquet (Edmond "Bud"); granddaughters, Margaret Anne Lowe, Emma Pepper Lowe, and Charlotte James Batla; his brothers, Herbert "Bert" Marion Rhodes IV (Candi) and Hans Richler Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sidney Raye Monroe Hamilton; stepmother, Theresia Richler Rhodes; father, Herbert Marion Rhodes III; and stepfather, Joseph Benton Hamilton.

Jim was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He attended both Louisiana State University and Nichols State University, where he studied business. While at LSU, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). It was during his college years that he met Cindy, the love of his life. They soon married and moved to Houston, where they raised their two daughters and lived for over 40 years.

After 12 years of working for his father at Abasco, Jim founded Rhodes Environmental, Inc. in 1996. He quickly earned respect and recognition in the industry for his unwavering dedication to his customers and vendors. Jim was highly regarded and formed many lasting friendships around the world.

He adored his daughters and was extremely involved in every aspect of their young lives; attending school events, swim meets and YMCA campouts. Having granddaughters meant trips to the park, movie theater and toy shops in Old Town Spring. Helping others would best describe him. He volunteered his time by boiling crawfish to raise funds for the "Maritime Workers Emergency Medical Fund". His selfless support for various foundations was just one of the many qualities that impacted so many. Other activities included eating!!! Themanlovedtoeat! He and Cindy planned many trips to New Orleans just for the food and Mardi Gras parades.

Jim had a zest for life and loved cooking for many. He looked forward to hosting his annual Rhodes crawfish party. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, boating or just relaxing in his backyard. He adored his grandparents and would reminisce about fishing with them on Lake St. John. He was a diehard fan of the LSU Tigers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Houston Astros and attended their home games when possible. He had a great sense of humor and never took himself too seriously.

He cherished his family deeply and will be profoundly missed by his wife, daughters, granddaughters, brothers, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends who have become family.

My dearest friend, you left us far too soon for your eternal home. As I reminisced with Juanita, we fondly recalled those wonderful early days of our journey and the business partnerships we built more than 30 years ago. Your unwavering support was invaluable, and for that, we will always be grateful.

The memories and stories from our many travels together are countless moments filled with joy, laughter, and shared experiences that will forever enrich our lives. I thank God for the gift of your friendship, for your kind heart, and for the generosity that always defined you.

Dearest Jim, we will miss you deeply, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who have the privilege of knowing you. Your kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support have left an everlasting mark on our lives, and we will cherish your memory forever.

To Cindy, Stephanie, and Allison may you find comfort in the beautiful memories you shared with Jim, and may God´s infinite love bring you peace and strength during this difficult time. May you always feel his presence in the love that surrounds you, the lives he touched, and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Being around Jim was to always be at a warm and uproarious party of close friends. He was larger than life, the natural center of the event, and a gracious host. Whatever may come in my future, I know that there will be a spicy feast, great conversation, and a neon welcome sign over his door in heaven. I look forward to it.

Jim and I started our friendship as business associates when he was working at Abasco. Through the decades we became good if not close friends. Jan and I will never forget the weekend we spent with Jim and Cindy in New Orleans. We tailgated at a Nichols State game and then a New Orleans vs Colts game. Mothers, Acme Oyster House, Central Grocery and Cafe Mondo that weekend. I have been retired now for seven years but we remained friends throughout. I will miss you Jim!!
