James L. Knight Jr.

A memorial service for James L. Knight Jr. will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home.Dear Pappy went with the Lord on Nov. 27.He was the middle child of 11 of Estelle and James Sr. He was born in Alabama but got to Texas by way of California as quick as he could.He served in the U.S. Navy four years on the USS Piedmont in San Diego, Calif. that put him on tours in foreign waters.He was married to Shirley Rogers and they had two sons, Stephen and Jim.He manufactured news racks for Terry Manufacturing for 26 years, which brought him to Palestine. He also was married to Hilda Knight and they had Stacey Knight, a beautiful girl.He loved guitar, mandolin, singing gospel in church, deer hunting and the ocean, sea and NASCAR.He loved raising deer and fun.He loved the Lord and was saved and baptized with son Stephen on Nov. 12, 1972 at Southside Baptist Church.He had four grandchildren, Kristin Knight of College Station, Lacey Knight of San Marcos, Elisha Knight of New Caney and Jennifer Patterson of Smyrna, Tenn. He also had two great-grandchildren, Jaden Allen and Kade Allen, both of Smyrna.The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please go see a senior citizen, an old friend or relative.
