JAMES W. LESANE
LUMBERTON — James William Lesane, 96, passed recently at the Veterans Affairs Nursing Center in Fayetteville.
He attended Redstone Academy in Lumberton, North Carolina, and was an excellent shortstop player in baseball.
He worked several years for the Carolina Theater and the Rayless Department Store. He also did monument work in New Bern, N.C.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II in Germany. After serving in the military, he resided in New Jersey for many years before returning to Lumberton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, Lumberton, N.C. Interment was in the church cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Lesane; daughters, Carol J. Gayden of Blythewood, South Carolina, and Allison Campbell, of Augusta, Ga.; sons, Larry Hickmon of Teaneck, New Jersey, Ronnie Hickmon of Lumberton, and George Lesane of Lumberton; and a brother, John Lesane of Lumberton.

I wish I could be there to help comfort Mrs. Rebecca, Greater New Bethel, and the rest of the family as you grieve. Uncle James and his candid sense of humor will truly be missed.
