Sorry to hear about Jim's passing. Roy and I lived across the street from his grandmother, Annie Hall,in Garrattsville so I've known Jim a long time. Oneonta has lost a good citizen.

To the Lettis Family, Jim's extended auction family and friends:

My sister Jennifer and I were very sad to hear of Jim's passing. Our family was very fond of Jim. My folks especially. They first established a business relationship with Jim and over the years that grew into a friendship. They shared many a funny story together and went to way too many auctions. My dad will miss Jim very much. Our family was fortunate to have known Jim and the memories he leaves us with are plentiful. He will not be forgotten.

With deepest sympathy,

Christina Freeland and Jennifer Moscar

I was sadden to hear of Jims passing away. In the late 1950's and early '60's he had his first Real Estate lics. with me and the company we were with and I assisted him with some of his auctions. He became a mentor to me during those years that I was in business in Oneonta. With fondest memories of a great man and may his legacy stay with us all and with the community of Oneonta. Jim was a fine man: honest, generous, intelligent. His Thursday night auctions were the best! Many of my home's furnishings came from there, as my late husband Bob Mullins never missed a Thursday.

I send my sympathy to his wife and family. Oneonta was lucky to have had Jim as a citizen and leader.

Jim was a wonderful man. Jim & his “crew” were always friendly, honest & fun whenever we attended the auctions. We will remember those days forever. "What we do in life echoes through eternity"

Mayor Jim Lettis made a lot of changes in the City of Oneonta while he was in office. Today the people of Oneonta enjoy alot of those changes because of him. He did make a difference in the people he met and in the city he loved. We are all lucky to have know him. Best to his family in this time of sorrow and Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

I am saddened by the death of my friend, Jim. He was a fine mayor who I enjoyed covering as a reporter for WDOS during his terms in office. He was always a gentleman offering complete assess and HONESTY. He, as Mayor Nader said, was first and foremost a citizen who loved Oneonta and put his indelible mark on the community and it's progress. I honor his memory. My condolenses to to the family and friends of this fine; fine man.

I left Oneonta in 1976 but some of my favorite memories was going to his actions. He knew that I had five kids and didn't have a lot of money and I always knew that sometimes he let me get something that he knew that I really wanted, even though he could have gotten more from someone else. He was a great man and I will always remember him. My best reguards to his family. I just lost my husband and I know that with the help of the good lord that you will get through this.

One fellow's gratitude: Jim, you gave me a job- when I needed one. You gave me a new understanding of government- when I really didn't care for the one we had. You taught me the value of people- a gift that I cherish and promise to share. (Oh- and I learned a little bit about the auction business, too.) As former crew chief of "The Mighty Men of Lettis & Sue" (circa 1979- Tom & Sue, Frank, Harry, Marty, Tracy, Ben, and all the guys) we lift our beat-up foderos one last time in honor of you, Jim...thanks for the guidance.

To Dorey and Lettis family:We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Lettis who was a dear friend and "father" to me. Always having faith in me, supporting and encouraging me along the way when I worked for him doing clean outs. Always a kind word from him and I will treasure the time spent with him forever. I miss him terribly. A real great friend. "Good people" as they say. I just can't say enough how much I loved the man. Honest, loyal friend, interesting, funny and always with a story. Thanks for looking out for me my friend over the years. Miss having breakfast (and banana) with you every morning and reading the paper to you. Our prayers and thoughts are with your family to get through this tough time. You will be forever in my heart. Farewell my dear friend, you are now at peace.
