Nannie Butts Obituary

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. ? Nannie Smith "Granny" Butts, 92, of 3627 Foster Road went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at her home after several months of declining health.

She was born in Pittsylvania County, Va., June 3, 1911, to Charles Henry and Florence Holt Smith.

Educated in Caswell County schools, she retired from Dan River Mills. She also was a farmer. She was the oldest member of Community Baptist Church.

She was married to Henry Thomas Butts in 1933.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry T. Butts, a son, Leonard Thomas Butts, two brothers, Albert and Elijah Smith and one sister, Mary Smith Dixon.

Survivors are four daughters and sons-in-law, Ethel Chumbley, Sara B. Phelps and husband, Mac, Virginia B. Bush and husband, Webster, Betty B. Gilreath and husband, Roger, all of Yanceyville; three sons and their wives, Silas Butts and wife, Jean, Larry Butts Sr. and wife, Becky and Charlie Butts Sr., all of Yanceyville; one sister, Ann Rose of Purley and one brother, Charlie H. Smith of Richmond, Va.; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two expected great-grandchildren; 2 expected great-great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark Smith, the Rev. Wayne Jones and Keith Boling. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday 7-8:30 p.m. at Community Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

Harrelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
