James S C Lim

James S. C. Lim, 93, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2023, at Grand Strand hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born in Honolulu, HI, on February 12,1930, to the late Man Sik Lim and Duk Soon Chung.

After graduating from Farrington High School, he proudly joined the United States Air Force and served from 1948 to 1952. He then started his lifelong 40+ year career as a valued and dedicated US State Department employee.

His first marriage was to Mary Boss in Seoul, Korea in 1958. They were married for 10 years.

During his employment with USAID, he was assigned to several foreign countries. When assigned to South Vietnam, he met his beloved second wife, Ann Dotherow. Together, they continued to live abroad on State Department USAID assignments. Jim could count South Korea, Paraguay, South Vietnam, Kenya, and Zaire as some of the foreign countries he lived and worked in, plus several Asian and European countries he visited as a tourist.

Upon their retirement, they settled in Myrtle Beach, SC. and we're active members of the Pine Lakes Country Club and their neighborhood community. Jim was an avid and expert golfer. Jim and his wife helped friends who needed assistance with U.S. sponsorship situations and always kept their doors open to any and all friends and family who happened to be in the area. Together, they enjoyed frequent trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas for family visits and reunions and taking ocean cruises to beautiful destinations.

Jim spent his final years, after his wife passed away in 2013, traveling to Las Vegas, staying in touch with his family, siblings, nieces, nephews, and relaxing at home with his loyal dog, Lani.

He will be dearly missed and remembered most as a loving father and family man, a friendly and hospitable man who was very generous and charitable and had a caring nature for those less fortunate.

Survivors include his daughter, Allison; son, Mark Lim (Lisa) of Fredericksburg, VA; brother Kenneth Kim (Linda) of Las Vegas, NV., and numerous nieces and nephews who called him, "Uncle Jimmy".

He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ann Dotherow Lim, and siblings; Raymond Lim, Helen Uyehara, George Lim and David Kim.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
