Our Condolences to Bonnie and family. I am a ham radio operator also. I first met Jim when he came to my home in South Jordan, Utah 30 years ago to check out my amplifier and Cubical Quad ham antenna with his friend Dave Self W7IHI who was also a Cubical Quad enthusiast. Jim was very well known in the ham radio community for his research on the quad antenna for the past 50 years. I visited Jim when he lived in Wyoming and his antenna, at 180 feet could be seen for miles around. He shared he climbed the antenna to fix a broken wire when the wind was blowing 50 miles an hour and how the tower moved like a piece of spaghetti. We laughed about that. The Ham radio community has lost a pioneer and great friend. K7CF
