I'm very sorry to learn just now of the passing of Attorney James Linn. I met him once or twice when he was visiting with his client Imelda Marcos. I especially remember a pleasant and leisurely lunch with both at a Chinese restaurant in Manila's Super Mall in 2003 or 2004. Attorney Linn was an interesting and courteous gentleman. My condolences to his grieving family. I wish you the very best.

I caddied for Jimmy Linn when he lived in Spearman and drove down to play at Phillips Country Club in Borger. Later, when I started playing golf, I beat him in a match that went into an extra hole. It was a par five. I sank a thirty-footer for a birdie and he missed his 12-footer. Years later, after I had been admitted to the UT Law School, I ran into him and told him the good news. "Why do you want to be a lawyer?" he asked. "Well, you always drove a new car every year." His response: "I make my money in wheat. Besides, you don't have the temperament to be a lawyer." So, I decided to go to graduate school and got a Ph.D. in history. I spent thirty-five years as a university professor. Jimmy was right. I would have made a lousy lawyer. Dad, on Christmas Eve we missed your love, beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and telling us we could stay as long as we wanted, but you were going to bed!! We missed your search for empty, used envelopes to write each of our names on! Our pain is lessened by knowing that you celebrated with your Mom, Dad, sister Louise, best friend and Mom to your children, Darlene, and with Randy. I love and miss you so much....

XOXO,

Dear Linn family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I have fond memories of parties that your mom and dad attended at our little house in Spearman. They would dance into the wee hours to big-band music. Boy, could they all jitterbug! Somewhere I have a photo of Rex sitting in his highchair with a big hunk of cheese in his hand. It is so precious to me now. Please know that I am lifting you up in prayer.

Rex, Jim and Rhonda,
You were all blessed with such a dynamic and compelling father. And, such a kind and good mother, Darlene. Our thoughts of sympathy are with you at this time of parting. Both of my parents are gone from this world, but I sense them close to me often. I'm sure your dad and mom will be looking out for all of you for the rest of your lives.
Love,

Rhonda, Jimbo and Rex. I was sorry to hear of Jimmie's devastating stroke and recent death. I'm also a Spearmanite who moved to Oklahoma City along with Jimmie and J. D. Helms. Your dad was certainly an awesome attorney and man. May you cherish your memories.

Linn Family, We were so sorry to hear of Jimmy death. He was a master of his profession. We moved from Spearmen to Oklahoma about the time Jimmy & J.D, Helms did. In the early 80's they helped us with business problems and we were treated with the same respect and professionalism as all their clients were. We will always be greatful.
My God Bless and be with your through this very stressful time.

Rex, Jim, and Rhonda: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked at Linn, Helms, Kirk and Burkett Law Firm back in the 70's. I will never forget those treasured times or the memories I have of your father while I worked there. He was extremely gracious and full of wisdom. Watching him in court before a jury was exciting. He was an extrodinary man and I enjoyed his humor. I learned a lot from him during those years and I will always be grateful for his kindness, his stories and his humor he provided whenever I saw him or would run into him even after I left the firm. He truly is a legacy and I know you all will miss him deeply. My thoughts and my prayers are with you and your families through these sad times.

A group of us were on a golf outing in Palm Srings. Mr. Linn came over and told us of playing golf at a high dollar place in NY. Mr. Linn said the started told them they would have to go off the back nine. Seeing no one on the front nine Mr. Linn inquired as to why. " I say sir,reply-ed the starter, there's already a foursome on the front nine." The man could tell a story.
