ABINGDON – James Preston "Jim" Litton, age 72, a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1935, the son of the late Leslie E. and Nell Counts Litton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Warren "Bob" Litton, and Thomas Wayne Litton. Jim grew up in the Poor Valley community. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a kind, gentle man always eager to help others, a loving husband and father and friend to many. He was instrumental in the growth and development of Washington County as a builder/developer during the '70s and '80s. He held deep regard for farming and his involvement with local politics. He will likely be best remembered throughout the community for his dedication and many contributions made while proudly serving on the Washington County Board of Supervisors, serving several years as chairman. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Anna S. Litton of Abingdon; two daughters, Maria Litton and fiancé William Garrett of Bristol Virginia and Dawn Litton Baumgardner and husband Kenny of Bristol Virginia; one brother, L.E. Litton Jr. of Abingdon; four nephews; and two nieces.
Funeral services for James P. "Jim" Litton will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in the Frost Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Price officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Robert Warren Litton Jr., James Bowen Litton, Thomas Meek Litton, Gary Litton, James R. Aker and Thomas C. Litton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis S. Sparks, Bobby Sproles, Thomas Whiteaker, Paul Ed Scyphers, William Chadwick, Robert R. Copeland, Randall Eads and Dallard Lowe. The family will receive friends at the Frost Funeral Home from 6-8 Sunday evening.
Flowers will be accepted or those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 6th floor, New York, NY 10001. Condolences may be submitted online to the family at www.frostfuneralhome.com

So sorry for your loss,my Dad(Waler Thomas) passed 3 yrs.ago and he thought alot of Mr. Jim, he use to combine for him years ago. Your in my thoughts and prayers.
