I knew him as "Mr. Luce" when he taught me classical guitar at the Music Settlement from 1966-1968. A good, patient teacher. Glad to have known him, glad he went the distance.

I never knew this condolence page existed. I was so sad when I heard the news about Hilton's passing. I always enjoyed his company at the recitals that Mr. Savage hosted as well as the annual Christmas parties that my daughter, Jan Bell, hosted. My thoughts are with you, Bonnie, and with all of his family and friends.

I think a guitar tribute would be lovely and I would be happy to attend.

I just found this web-stie. Some people thought it would be nice to have a guitar concert in memory of JIm. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Either way, I would love to hear from you.

Jim was a caring teacher, a dedicated musician, a good friend, and a true gentleman. He was my classical guitar teacher at the Cleveland Music School Settlement for over 10 years back in the '80s and '90s. He was kind and sharing, and had a profound and fatherly influence on me--I will always consider him a kindred spirit. Deepest sympathies to Bonnie Savage and to all of Jim's family. Know that Jim still lives on warmly in the hearts of all those whom he touched.

I will miss being with you today but am thinking of the wonderful times at Ginie's house with the Forest City Singers and Hilton's wonderful, beautiful voice. We will miss him so much. Love, Marjorie Kitchell

Jim Luce was my teacher more than 40 years ago at the Music Settlement School. I am truly saddened but I have great memories of the lessons long ago. Today, when I play a piece I studied years ago, I still see his notes on the page, "Too much rubato!" "Just play as written!" Thank you, Jim, for your kindness and patience. Sleep on! dear Friend.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
