James "Jim" Maley Jr.

SUN CITY WEST - James "Jim" Maley Jr., 88, of Sun City West, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012. He was born in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 20, 1923, to James Maley Sr. and Agnes (King) Maley. He graduated from Fountain Hill High School in Pennsylvania in 1940. He attended Moravian College in Bethlehem from 1941-1943, until he went into the U.S. Navy, serving in the U.S. Naval Air Squadron VPB-150. He served until 1946. Upon his discharge he returned to Moravian College and graduated in 1948. He worked for the New York City Transit Authority as Midwest Regional Manager and retired in 1980 after 27 years. He moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 1979, becoming one of the pioneers of the city. He was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Sun City West since November 1979, elected President 1983-84, Lt. Governor 1987-88, and was a life member of Kiwanis International since 1988. He served as the American Bowling Congress representative to Johnson Lanes in Sun City West for 21 years, was president of the Greater Phoenix Bowling Association for the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, became a life member of the Greater Phoenix Bowling Association in 1999, and was elected to the Sun City West Bowlers Association Hall of Fame in 1986. In May 1981 he was elected to the first Board of Directors of the Fire District of Sun City West, resigning in 2001 after 20 years of service. He also served as an Elder at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Janet; seven children: sons, Thomas (Linda) Maley, James (Debra) Maley, Michael (Lynne) Maley, and Phillip Coles; daughters, Mary (Alan) Alexander, Brenda (Ron) Stokes, and Eileen (Randy) Rippy; 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Saturday March 10, 2012 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 15630 Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City (south of Bell Road). Burial will be in the National Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Arizona at a later date.
