Colonel (Ret.) James "Russ" Maloney, 90, of Sherwood, Arkansas passed away June 22, 2022. He was born in Portland, Maine on February 9, 1932 to the late James A. Maloney and Florence (Russell) Maloney.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jennie (MacDonald) Maloney; children, Lorna M. Tobin (Charlie), Timothy Maloney (Joan), Laurie M. Aldridge (Al), Lisa M. Love (Dale), Thomas Maloney, Todd Maloney (Alisa); 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marjorie M. Curry.
In his early years, Russ proudly earned his Eagle Scout rank. He retired after serving 30+ years in the United States Army. Russ is a Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was an active member of the Military Officers Association of America. He has been a long time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served many years as an usher.
Dad's favorite saying was "One Man's Family!" and he was certainly proud of his.
A rosary will be held at 7:00PM Monday, June 27, 2022 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107). Memorial Mass will be at 10:30AM, Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (7000 JFK) with interment following at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homes For Our Troops.
