James Markuske Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2024.
James Markuske, born on May 13, 1962, in Queens, NY, passed away suddenly at the age of 62 on November 4, 2024, in Brevard, NC. James, affectionately known as Jim, brightened every room with his presence. Known for his humor, supportiveness, protectiveness, and loving nature, Jim had the unique ability to instantly make friends and bring laughter to any situation. Being loved by him was a cherished blessing.

Jim served in the New York City Police Department from 1984 to 1998. He retired as a Highway Patrol Sergeant, a role in which he dedicated himself to the safety and security of others with honor and courage. He later transitioned his career to technology, where he worked as a Microsoft certified hardware engineer from 1999 to 2005.

Jim met Dorothy in 1982 and their great love story began. Jim lived a life with great adventures, friends and family he loved, and Dorothy always by his side. Jim had a passion for travel and culinary adventures. He relished the opportunity to try local foods and beers at every destination, always eager to share these experiences with friends and family. His zest for life and ability to make people laugh were integral parts of his personality.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; siblings Margaret and John Levandoski, sister who he loved dearly Jeanne (Steve) Neidhardt, and brothers John (Nancy), Tommy, and Robert. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy with numerous nieces and nephews: Ian (Kirsten), Jarret, Timmy (Toya), Kathleen (Dan), Steven (Jessica), Ryan, Teddy(Janene) , Will, MaryEllen, Penny (Wes), Alicia, and Amy, as well as great-nieces and nephews Saylor Rose, T.J., Alyssa, Gabby, Gracie, Liddy, Riley, Sally, Ret, and John Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 22, 2024. Please raise a glass or say a prayer in his memory that afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Tunnel to Towers foundation, an organization close to Jim's heart.

His spirit, laughter, and love will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jimmy was always smiling and always joked around. Never saw him mad once in all the years I worked for him in Highway 1. Jim say hi to all the other Highway guys in heaven for me. You will be missed very much.
