James Mathes Obituary
Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Buffat Heights Baptist Church, 2800 Mill Road, Knoxville TN, 37924, with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Dave Thomas. Interment service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, 2708 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City TN, 37601, officiated by Pastor Jason Hartley. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery on Friday at 1:45 PM. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary in Maynardville.

I had the privilege of knowing him as a student and football player at Tennessee School for the Deaf and coaching him in 1991. He was inducted into the Tennessee School for the Deaf Athlete Hall of Fame in 2022 for his extraordinary performance as an offensive and defensive lineman, and in 1991, he was voted as the All-American Offensive Lineman. Rest in Peace #75.
