Con McGinnis, beloved husband of Sydney, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the age of 81 years. Con's career was spent in the Oilfields as a Landman and Oil Scout. He donated much of his time, along with many volunteers, helping to rebuild the Garrison Curling Club, he also coached hockey at the Glamorgan Hockey Rink. Besides his loving wife Sydney, Con is survived by his children and their spouses, Ken and Tracy McGinnis, Kelly and David Michiels and Patti and Dean Geatros; his beloved grandsons Ryan and Daniel Michiels; his sister Judith and Ken Stuparek. Con was predeceased by his parents Dr. J.A. and Marguerite McGinnis. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34 Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, donations can be made directly to the charity of your choice. In living memory of Con McGinnis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Dear Sydney, Ken, Kelly and Patti,
My deepest sympathy to you all for your loss. I can scarcely look back on my childhood without thinking of Con and the many great times shared by our neighbourhood families. We all loved the annual baseball game and grey cup parties. I particularly loved the great pranks which Con, Bob McKenzie and my dad used to perpetrate on one another such as the building of Bill's gazebo or the planting of the withered shade tree. Con will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the McGinnis family in this time of grief.I first met Con at St. Joseph's high school where we both played on the 1950 high school football team as city champions,only to lose to Calgary in the provincial finals.I enjoyed Con's friendship and his happy and positive personality.

So sorry to hear of Con's passing. Growing up he was always one of the more entertaining Dad's in the neighborhood. Always made me laugh and have nothing but fond memories of him. I am out of the country otherwise I would surely be in attendance to pay my respects. He will be missed.
