James P. McIntire

"Coach" Like everyone you came in contact with I too was touched by your wisdom and understanding of young adults. I still tell my friends young and old about Mr. McIntire. They all laugh when I tell them how coach used to say I was so skinny I had to run around in the shower to get wet. Then he would hand me a lunch card that I know he purchased with his own money. I regret not stopping by to visit, hopefully we will meet again in heaven. I know coach will be there.

Uncle Jim's house was always a happy stop for our family when we stopped with our father, Wesley J. McIntire and our mother Lois. On our last visit Uncle Jim told me it would probably be the last time we saw one another. We made the most of that visit and shared how much our times together had meant to us. My love goes to Marge and the girls. I hope to see you all the next time we are in Minnisota.

I have the fondest memories of every occasion in which I had a chance to see Jim. I remember the lake and watching him filet the first MN lake fish I had ever caught. He gave me the pick of anything I wanted from the Sports Store on a visit when I was young and being young I picked a ball. Silly me! I was fortunate enough to talk and with he and Marge a few years ago on my way from Duluth and heard some great stories. He will be truly missed. I loved talking to him and always came away with knowledge about something new. A VERY GOOD MAN who carried a bright light! My prayers are with you! May he rest in peace, where Alice and others will greet him.

Whenever I am asked to name the teacher whom I most respected as I went through school or the educator that impacted my live more than any other, it was always Jim McIntire. He made us work, he disciplined us continually but one always knew that he loved us. As a coach, teacher, and role model, I will never forget him and thank him for being a part of my life.

Mr. McIntire's funeral was one of the best that I have attended. Truly a great man-- a local hero. All of you girls--top shelf! That is a tributre to your parents. How proud you made them.

Mr. McIntire shared his near death experience with me. To meet Our Lord in a sneak preview... and now to be with Him for eternity! Wonderful!

We lived next door for years so we thought we sort of had an "in" with Mr. McIntire. He was junior high principal. I thought I'd be fashionable and wear a pair of gold suede Go-Go boots up to the knees with long zippers in the back. I purchased them in Winnipeg on a family trip. Proctor had a dress code. Mr. McIntire sent me home. I was so ticked. I wanted my mom to give him a piece of my mind because we were neighbors and he should let me wear my fashion statement. Didn't happen and the boots were not worn to

school again. I also could hardly wait to show him personally the State Softball Trophy the girls I coached from Moose Lake won. I knew he'd understand the feeling and pride of such a thrill. He didn't disappoint me with his comments. We always remembered his birthday, an Irishmen born on St. Patrick's Day! It doesn't get any better. The neighborhood won't be the same without James Patrick cruising his lawn on the mower.

Heaven's weeds don't stand a chance!

My condolences to you and your family. I had "coach" as a teacher in gym class and as principle. The first word the came to mind when I heard coach had died, was RESPECT. He just had that air about him. He gave you that look and you knew something you did wasn't right. Also, he had a warm smile which made you feel good too.

Coach McIntire,as time has passed. Every time we come across old class mates. The conversations always come back to you, and your great influences that you had on all of our lives. You stand as a great reminder to any one who plans to, or is already, teaching. Just how a teacher, coach, and most important of all, a friend. Can be to the young students, and athletes. I am so sorry about your loss. I feel honored to have been your neighbor for so many years, and the neighbor to the legendary Jim McIntire. I have a wealth of memories from the years we all spent together. Now as a parent, I can appreciate the care that Jim took to search for us in the middle of the night in "Putt-putt" time after time!

I'm so thankful to have been able to have had some laughs with you, Marge, and Jim, at Jack Peterson's 75th birthday party.

you are the reason i went into teaching and coaching. you motivated and inspired us all to always give the best that was within us but always as part of a team. you also gave us caring and compassion, especially when you saw we needed it the most. you are a great man who is my hero and i will always remember "Coach McIntire". I don't want to be sad, but I sure am. Coach Mac saved me from the dark side, not with his coaching(which was great) but with his humanity in meetings with me off the field. He didn't care if I played football or not he did care about what kind of human being I was to become. He seen things no one else could. When it comes to Mac, I don't know where to start. He was a man that was always there for us when we were kids. It didn't matter what it was, he always had the time. I know that if it wasn't for Mac, my brother would not be here today. He helped Pete in so many bad times, and I know when Pete hears of Mac's passing, he will take it very hard. I know now that Jim is with my Dad, and all the other people that worked at Proctor 704, and they are having a great time talking about the Good Old Days. I didn't know Mr. McIntire as a coach, but I remember him as caring Principal at Jedlika Jr. High. He took me aside in detention one day and said: "I expect 'this' from some of the others but why are you here?" (Maybe it was a standard couseling ploy, but it worked well for me.) Thanks Mr. McIntire.

Other than my own father, I can think of no person that had as positive an influence on my life as Coach McIntire. I was honored to have had him as a teacher, coach, and friend. There are so many words that describe Coach McIntire, but the one I always associate with him is the word "Respect." I know of no one who did not respect the way that he taught, coached, and treated others. Thanks Coach- I will never forget you.

I am sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a great friend of my father Jack Vinje when we lived in Carlton and Two Harbors. Jim treated me so well as a young athlete and again in later years when I chose to go into coaching and teaching myself! He will be missed!

Coach Mac and his family were all treasured friends of the Hansons as we were growing up. He was a valued mentor whose friendship continued long after graduation. His retirement from teaching and coaching left a big hole at PHS. His passing now leaves a big hole in the many hearts whose lives he touched, but we all have wonderful memories. Our sincerest condolences.

I didn't have chance to teach with Jim(my loss) - He left for CZ Wilson the year I started teaching here in Proctor(1968).

I was fortunate enough to have Jim as a neighbor for 22 years.

Jim & I had many "talks" - mostly in his yard or mine.

We discussed topics from "the weather" to politics(city - world) to school issues to lawn care(those dandilions)to gardening to life issues to Religion.

Jim was truly a WISE and GREAT man!

We will all miss Jim.

BUT, we WILL see you again, Jim!

My sympathy and prayers go to the McIntire family and friends. Wes was in my class of '42 in Carlton. We were always very proud of our basketball star, Jimmy! I'm glad the latest News Tribune had a more detailed account of his athletic feats...! Not only that, I see he was a great family man! I believe my brother and I saw him a few minutes the last time we visited old friends at the Carlton Health Center. He was visiting Harry Newby at the time.

As a kid growing up in Cloquet 40 years ago, Mac would outfit the team with spikes for track and field. He always inquired and showed concern about my father during my dad's illness. Mac was "Blue Chip."

You were a credit to the Coaching fraternity and are remembered in Southern MN. as well. Thoughts and prayers are with the family. (Tom Mahoney).

For most of us that "Coach, friend, co-worker, teacher etc. McIntire" touched, we will say that he was the most important, non-family member, influence in our lives. I will always remember the long talks and his vision and wisdom as a coach and businessman.



I can only hope that if I get to heaven, that Coach will once again, pick me to play on his team.

A truly dear man in so many ways. As a husband and father to his lovely wife and daughters--how fortunate you are to have had him for so many years. My memories of Jim when I was a teen put a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart. Years later, it was always a delight to see him! God bless you all.

It was indeed a privilege to have Mr. McIntire as a coach and teacher. He had an major influence on my decision to go into teaching and working with young people. May you find comfort in knowing that he is at peace but he will live on forever in our hearts.
