James McNutt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2025.
Knoxville - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Nicholas "Nick" McNutt who left this world too soon on March 5, 2025 at the age of 40. Though his life was marked by struggles, it was also filled with deep love, passion, and an adventurous spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

Nick was at home in the mountains, where he found peace carving through fresh snow on his snowboard, hiking through the wilderness, and breathing in the beauty of the outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for good music-the kind that speaks to the soul-and he poured that same passion into his woodworking, crafting pieces that reflected his creativity and skill.

Above all, Nick adored his young daughter, Kaia. She was his greatest love and his brightest light. Every moment spent with her was a gift he cherished, and his love for her will endure in the hearts of those who will continue to tell her his stories.

Though addiction was a battle he fought, it does not define him. He was a father, a son, a brother, and a friend. He was kind, funny, talented, and full of life.

Nick is survived by his beloved daughter, Kaia Elizabeth McNutt; his parents; Rose Canada and Jim McNutt; his sister, Jeanne McNutt Blake (Ryan); his Grandmother, Mary Anne McNutt, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He had a wide circle of friends who will forever hold his memory close.

A celebration of his life will be held on March 23 from 3-6 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. To honor Nick's memory and his love for his daughter, a scholarship fund has been established for Kaia. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to contribute can do so at https://gofund.me/9cfd5a28 .

Rest easy, Nick. May you find endless mountains to ride, music that moves your soul, and the peace you always sought.

Revelation 21:4 - "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

To the McNutt Family:
I never got to meet Nick but looking at his picture, he is so adorable and I wish I had known him. It makes me so sad to think he is gone. I am sending sincere sympathy to his whole family.

Nick was a friend of mine during high school and I saw him infrequently through the years, only falling out of contact with him within the last decade. Last I spoke with him, he was doing well. It grieves me to hear of his passing at such a young age, and he is definitely missed. I send prayers to his family.
