James Mercure, 90, of Ellenton, Florida, previously from Millsboro, Delaware, passed away on June 16, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Preston County, West Virginia on June 10, 1933.

Jim served in the Army Air Corp/United States Air Force in the AeroVac unit (Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation). He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Jim served as a medic and after 25 years of military service he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Jim loved to watch old Western movies; he was the King of Grit. He loved to fish and was an avid sports' fan. His favorite teams were the Notre Dame and Red Skins football teams. He loved to cook on the Bar-B-Q grill; his specialty was Bar-B-Q spareribs. Jim made sure that no one left the house hungry.

Jim is survived by his wife Judith, daughter Brigitte, sons Philip and Walter, stepson Jeff, and his grandchildren, Monica, Alyssa, Alexa, Alania, and 3 great grandchildren. Jim is also remembered by his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his loving family and friends, James leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. He will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle nature, and unwavering support for those in need.

Services will be held on September 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM, Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Barr, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tidewell Hospice, Lakewood Ranch Florida. James believed in the power of giving back and would appreciate any contributions made in his honor.

James Mercure will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

"Big Jim" & Judy have been our Neighbors in Colony Cove for about 12 years. We shared SO many good times & events together in our "hood". No words can express how blessed we are to know people like Big Jim! He was the perfect neighbor always wanting to help or give in any way possible. Once in awhile there would be a bunch from our hood sitting around the campfire & Jim would tell us a few tales of when he was serving his country. Marilyn Monroe was always his favourite to tell us & for sure the one we all were impressed with the most. When we first met him we were advised he was a "mountain man". We sure didn´t know what he meant but as years slipped by he proved himself worthy of the name. Most people we know that have all the health issues Jim had will just feel sorry for themselves & never do anything else. Not Big Jim! We watched him struggle daily to even walk while insisting to work around his property, putting out his garbage or planting new flowers. We witnessed True Grit! Can´t tell you how impressed & loved this giant of a man was by us.
RIP Jim. You ahead of most others deserve to be in peace now. You will never know how much you influenced us in "the hood".
Wayne (Fin) & Brenda your Canadian friends. XX OO.
